I was going to do an engine swwap, but decided a complete suspension overhall would be more suited to the way I drive.

My current plans are

Springs : Tein S-tech
Shocks : Bilstein Shocks
Sway Bar : Suspension Technique front and rear anti-sway bar
Strut Brace : Cusco front and GT-Four rear
Arm Bar : JIC lower arm bar

So how good is this setup? What else should I do to make it even better?

get new bushings all around and top pillow mounts for the front and rear.

Just for people.. quick layout:

Tein S-tech = ~$140
Bilstein Shocks = ~$330
SusTech front and rear anti-sway bar = ~$280
Cusco front and GT-Four rear= ~$350 (2 point cusco front is cheaper btw..)
JIC lower arm bar= ~$100-$200 (know cusco one is $175 shipped..)

You'll probably notice/feel more of a gain by doing this then your whole list there. And im actually being halfway serious.
This is coming from a guy who, has everything on that list, plus better springs IMO.

I still want a remotely comfortable ride, and replacing all the bushings would make for a very bumpy ride. I think Ill replace all the ones that control horizontal movement and leave the vertical ones stock.

I've had the s-tech/bilstein, st bar setup for about 3 weeks. The handling difference is enormous--like driving a different car. Bumps in the road are definitely much more pronounced, however. But the trade-off is worth it for the handling...

That suspension set up sounds excessive for daily use, or even modderate track use. The stock sways are good, stock springs aren't bad, strut bars are a good idea, bushings will make it rattle and not be good for a daily driver. And if your serious enough to get bushings, then why go with a soft spring like the s-tech?

EDIT: Unless you are into racing big time, anything more than strut tower bars, springs, and maybe sways are just bragging rights.

stocksways can be lived with but upgrading to ST swaybars makes a nice difference and for the $ is a good investment and it really doesn't make a harsh ride...coupled with TEIN SS coilovers its going to be effective and ride well for daily use and mild track use.

the rear strut bar at 65$ from toyota or ~$15-$20 in your own materials is a very SMART buy

and bushings arn't considered bragging rights... bushings make significant differences in the way the car works. Few of my friends have them and didn't notice anything but increase in handling stability their stuff doesn't rattle at all!?

I have


TRD springs
KYB GR-2
Susp. Tech. sway bars Front and rear
GT 4 rear strut bar
front strut bar
bushings
and 215/50/16 tires/wheel set-up

cons :

gotta go slower on bad roads, little bumps and pot holes
the car is hard

pros :

I LOVE THE HANDLING, I really do. smile.gif
