Do we really know if ht engine is truely the same as the ST Celicas? Might there be forged internals etc to aid in FI? What's the CR?

The 7A-FTE is an untouched garden-variety Corolla engine

I would assume this is the same as what we already have, same internals.

i would think that that sentence meant the turbo is supplied with a host of extra parts including (but not limiteid to) ...

somehow i don't think toyota would sell a production turbo car w/o making sure the engine was bulletproof

i was under the impression all their FI engines were quite different internally to the NA variant like:
4agze <-> 4age
3sgte <-> 3sge
2jzgte <-> 2jzge

That was my thought too. Remeber though that Tom's was involved. Don't know how that factors but they are a very reputable company with a long standing relationship with toyota so IDK. I would tend to think the motor is probably not stock.

well it only boosts to 8psi, I think its possible to be running stock 7A internals. plus they only made 100, would they really have gone through the trouble of fitting it with stronger internals?

Dont think they put somthing stronger inside the engine. Only thing that was changed IMHO - Clutch. And the KEY in this 7AFTE setup was tuning. 7AFTE on 8Psi could run the same as it was running on N/A.

The key as ALWAYS is the tuneup of your setup.

If you read all the articles that are linked from Hurley's first post they indicate that it was an install at the port in Australia, which I take to mean as bolt-on, just like the stuff they do to the tCs right now (i.e. optional side impact airbags by changing the front seats, etc). It didn't sound like anything invasive to me, like changing internals.

nice find steff.
no need for stronger internals for that amount of boost and power made.
steff, an 8psi setup would be easy as hell to setup, and on a decent motor to start with perfectly reliable with a decent (SAFCII or whatever) tune.

You have to remember that those Fi engines where designed by toyota to handle boost.
The 7afte set up here is an after market ( toms ) company venture.
