If new people just used the search button everytime they had a question than the boards would die off. Im sure EVERY question has been answered one time or another.

Homeskillet if you click the second link theres an example of bondo'ing / fiberglassing the dash. Itchy put gauges and an SAFC into his and then painted it. What exactly do u want to do to yours?

I started to paint my dash a couple months ago and i quit because i practiced on some other platic before i actually started on my car and i used all tester's from walmart and i sanded some but not extreme since it was just practice and i put a couple coats of primer then a couple coats of color then some clear and it didnt seem very durable so i didnt paint the dash since i dont want to put it in then it get real chipped and everything but them dashes look great so i was wondering how durable the paint was and how did u get it that durable?

You have to sand the plastic with a very fine grit sandpaper......the finish on the dash panels is too smooth for paint to adhere to it without prepping it really well.
Start with the sandpaper, then use a tack cloth to clean it off and some rubbing alcohol to get rid of any oils and residue. Most importantly be sure to use very thin, even coats of flexible plastic primer, followed by paint meant for plastics....Testors works, theres Krylon that is designed for plastic applications , etc.

The high-gloss look could probably be achieved by using an automotive grade clear with some flex urethane in it that they use on bumpers and such. Wetsanding, buffing and polishing will bring out the luster and make it look really clean.

The Jetta's dash was probably taken to a body shop and painted with paint guns there professionally. Thats the best way to get the results you're looking for. wink.gif
