Future Shop is a big Canadian electronics retailer, think Best Buy (actually Best Buy owns but didn't found them).

How is the driving position? Every picture I look at I'm "impressed" by how low the shifter seems to be! In the celica it sits higher, just falls in your hand..It doesnt look comfortable, or is it?

By the way, in canada they are called SIR.

the engine sounds amazing towards redline? i dont know what people hear but it's wack. i drove my inlaw's 00 si and gosh...they brag about how fast it is and all this crap...when i drove it, it wasn't fast, i didn't hear anything...vtec suck...it's just like any other car...i drove my other inlaw's ek9 turbo and it was pretty fast....most people say it's fast cause they're light little asians and they dont put weight on the car... laugh.gif

anyways YES it's a good daily driver car! i'd buy it for daily drive but for nothing else....make sure you get one in good condition or else it's gonna rust in a few yrs...i have a buddy who bought his brand new, drove it year round and what 3 yrs later RUST ATTACK!

i dont know but i guess it's how the person drives and how long of a reach they have...i must admit the civic does have a nice shifter position...the seats are not comfy...it feels like sitting on a bench...

My friend has an '00 SI and it's ok quick (if you like lightly modded GT Celica quick) with just an intake and exhaust and rims/tires. He and I are about dead even speed wise. From a stop I pull like 2 cars on him and by 5th gear he will creep those back [mostly in the 3-5 gear ranges].
Mods are cheap and supposedly responsive. IDK - It seems really cheap inside though like everything is of lesser quality than the Celica. Like the newer Toyotas [7th Gen especially] quality.

I have a 99 which is the same model, but its not an SI even though i wish it was. i think its a great car, lots of and cheap modification options, roomy interior, i can reach the shifter fine. i got a slightly moded DX its kinda quick if you drive it right, but ive never driven an SI so i cant comment on performance. Gas milage is nice, gets 30mpg
Over all its a great car, no problems really, fun car to drive, and i think its comfortable (better than the celica as far as for a bigger guy, meaning the roof is higher, seats are easy to get in and out of)

I had one a couple of years ago. I agree that it is a very fun car to drive. The driver's position was good for me, but the seats in the Celica are much more supportive and comfy. The car was quick not that fast, but back then it held it's own with other cars. I'm sure you all know that the aftermarket is endless with the civic, especially with the Si. I had the comptech intake and springs with Koni Yellows set up and man it was nice. The only thing is if you get one be prepared for negative attention from other people and cops. The last draw for me was when a cop pulled me over for thinking my car was stolen and started yelling at me asking me where I got my car. He wanted to search my car and I guess he forgot to ask me for my license and registration, so he was like oh, let me see those. Then when they checked out that my car was ok then they just gave me a tint ticket. The next week I sold my car. I do miss the fun I had driving it, but I don't miss the fear of my car being stolen where ever I go (even with an alarm).

if you didn't hear anything, than the car you were driving probably wasn't running properly. I'm sorry but it's freakin impossible NOT to hear vtec on this thing... it sounds like another engine turns on.

Rayme, as for the driving position, I like the celica better, and so does my husband. It's closer to you.

And yes, this is the canadian version, it's a 99 Civic Si-R

Here's a pic of it, the front lip & gramlights are off for winter right now, so it's sittin on steelies, but I still like it smile.gif

You can definitely hear (and feel) when VTEC kicks in. Especially with an intake.
