1. This is my favorite of the three as well because while being a totally crazy swap, it's also keeping it simple by not changing the overall aspect of the car. The 1UZ is a fantastic engine, quite possibly the most reliable engine Toyota has ever built. It does use an aluminum block, so a low boost turbo system could be done with proper tuning and good quality parts. 2. The chassis is indeed different, this would be a major project but at the same time it has been done a couple of times so that's good to know. With this swap many things would have to be done to ensure the integrity of the chassis. The first thing that I would do before anything else would be to install a full roll-cage to help keep everything stable. 3. With this swap, it would hardly be correct to even refer to the car as a Celica anymore, basically we would be using the Celica frame as a basis and build a custom car out of it. Again, a full racing rollcage would be the first step. As for being safe and controllable.... that all depends on the driver Needless to say these prices are subject to change so if anyone decides that they want to do a swap like this, contact me. -Doc .....im with you 70%....keep selling. you speak of "many things" need to be done. what are they? at this point we're pass the theroy stage....and the "it could"part of the game. you need to start showing your hand so everyone can ponder this....and eventually aid you in the project. where is manny? what are your thoughts on these options? |

I guess you're talking about option #2, which is convert a Celica to AWD with a 3SGTE swap. I saw earlier today a complete 3SGTE ST205 front clip AND the complete rear subframe, rear diff and axles, and driveshaft with the center carrier. Now THAT would be the way to go. If I were to take a project like this one, I would first strip out the interior of the car, build a nice tig-welded stainless rollcage to keep everything nice and stable, do the engine swap with the AWD tranny to place the output shaft location. Then I would make the needed modifications to install the rear subframe with the diff and axles and hubs and so on. This would also require relocating/modifying the fuel tank. Then I would cut and build the tunnel for the driveshaft and install that into place. That's the basic overview I want to know if I add a v6 camry 5spd tranny to my 5sfe if my original 5sfe axles would work on the v6 trans? No, they sure won't... as far as I know. -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

I want to know if I add a v6 camry 5spd tranny to my 5sfe if my original 5sfe axles would work on the v6 trans? the 5SFE manual tranny (S54) axles won't work with the V6 manual tranny (E153). You need MR2 turbo inner and alltrac outter with a spacer for the passenger side axle. besides, adding a E153 to a 5SFE will only make it slower, put a V6 on your S54 and burn some rubber -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

The Camry/Solara 5sfe 5speed will work but will require custom clutch kit. The Camry/Solara E153 will work as well but as E-KSD said you would need to fab the passenger side axle.

You guys all know that I've been doing swaps in Celicas for a long time, and after doing enough of the 3SGTE, 3SGE, 4AGE swaps, etc, I'm feeling the need for something a little off the wall. I have a feeling that there are some Celica owners out there who are thinking the same thing, they want something a little different. I've got three projects in mind that I'd be interested in doing, and I might even give a discount if someone steps up to the plate to have one done. 1. 1UZFE swap. The 1UZFE is the 4.0 V8 engine from the Lexus LS400. It makes between 265 and 300hp depending on the version. I would like to swap this engine, FRONT-WHEEL DRIVE, into a Celica, using an E153 or E58 transmission (LSD optional). I have personally seen this done sideways in a MK1 MR2, which is no bigger, if not smaller, than the Celica engine bay. We have all the equipment needed at my shop, and besides me, we now have another expert fabricator and tig welder that we just hired. I estimate the TOTAL cost of the engine swap, including the engine, transmission, all custom metal fabrication and installation, turn-key and ready to go out the door, at $9000. 2. AWD 3SGTE conversion. This one has been done before and there's a number of threads recently on the subject. I've been ready to do one of these for a while, so if there's someone out there serious about having it done, I'm up for it. I estimate the cost of the whole conversion, including all the parts, 3SGTE engine (3rd gen) and transmission, labor, fabrication, and so on, turn-key and ready to roll, at $11,000. 3. 1JZGTE or 2JZGTE swap and conversion to REAR WHEEL DRIVE. Not a typo. You know what it is, you know you want it. We can do it. Total cost including everything: $12,000. WHO'S UP?! i just wrapped up a 1jzgte supra mk3 auto ,got 94 celica 2.0gt ss2,shame im in uk,would you guys be intrested in buying supra for shipping to usa?imsure a deal could be done? |

I am just wondering since this thread was started in Feb of 07 if these prices have gone up?
I have been quoted 5800 for just the 3s swap and another 10,000 for the AWD... Just curious to see what the price take for Option 2 is... -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

Yeah, they sure have. Just contact me for current pricing.
Here's some more practical swaps that I'd like to do: 2ZZGE (7th gen Celica GTS 180hp) into '96+ Celica (OBD2 emissions legal) 2AZFE (Scion tC 160hp 160ft/lbs) into '96+ Celica (OBD2 emissions legal) 2GRFE, 2GRFSE, or 3MZFE into Celica (OBD2 emissions legal) -Doc This post has been edited by Dr_Tweak: Jul 23, 2008 - 10:31 AM -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

NOONE, should EVER spend 11K on ANY swap in a celica. lmao -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

This engine is used OEM in RWD only. Maybe a 2GRFE/2GRFSE hybrid? That being said, I'm all for a seeing a 2GR-FE, which is probably the biggest that a 6gc can take without cutting up the engine bay. Right off the bat, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't fit. If ever I swap again, this is would be my engine of choice. Disregarding the price of the engine. Hahaha just too much stuff packed in a tight area. I like the idea of the supercharger/turbo set up but its just too messy and too many parts to have working in such a small area. It does look messy, yeah. Kind of like someone took a box of scrap parts and dumped them into an engine bay, LOL
For what it's worth, I did that swap/conversion for a friend basically for free, he was on a super-low budget so we didn't do things nearly as nicely as we could have. -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

do have pictures of any previous drive train conversions, frame extensions, or transmission tunnel fabrications?
or is this find a guinea pig to see if you actually can do this? |

Probably because I would be making it myself and I know **** all about turbos. Still I would love to do something like that to my 7A-FE if it didn't already look like it was going to crap out in the next 6 months. -------------------- (\__/) (='.'=) This is bunny. If I had something else to drive, (and a few grand laying around) I'd donate my car in a heartbeat. Somehow it seems there's just not enough web work that would ever cover this one...
