I took pictures for those of you who want to install an injen intake or any other intake. I think installing an intake is basically the same for any intake on our Celica. The air filter box restricts valuable air from coming in and only has one source of air come in from one direction. An intake has air coming in from all direction. Take a look at the picture below.

STEP 1: Unscrew the filter box. There are three screws that need to be unscrewed. Screw number pictured below with the 3 next to it is the hardest to reach. After you unscrewed the filter remove it.

STEP 2: Remove the pipe that goes into the manifold by unscrewing the screw circled (pictured below) to remove the pipe, so you can put the intake in.

STEP 3: Put the filter on your injen or intake pipe. Tighten in screws 1-2; leave 3 untouched. Screw 1 tightens your air filter to the pipe. Screw 2 tightens the rubber thing. Place the red rubber thing onto the manifold where the old pipe used to be. Then tighten screw number
Note: The red wire near the manifold is for special uses like nos or electrical stuff iono, so don't worry about it. The red wire with the word "breather" is just the breather I think. I'm not if that's actually a breather or not because breathers don't look like that. Breathers look like air filter except in mini size. You can purchase one at PEPBOYS, they have the APC breathers which are small.Small is good depending on your intake for my intake because I have no room to fit the breather 'cauise the wires get in the way, so I just use that red tube as a breather. Don't trip over the breather, it isn't really a big deal. This post has been edited by hioctane: Jul 14, 2003 - 12:24 AM |

Hi,
I have a similar set up but with a 3 inch cold air pipe that runs from under the car (spash guard) to the filter. If you do not have cool air coming from somewhere then no matter how much extra air you get the heat soak will rob you of power more thyan the factory box... |

Also if your battery leaks a little fluid careful as the air flow will blow drops of battery acid on the filter and eat holes into it that can let grime & duct into your EFI system....

If you're worried about battery acid from coming into the manifold then buy an air filter with a heatshield ( 1st picture below) or a heatshield for your intake. My battery doesn't really leak at all, so I'm not worried about it from coming into my manifold. If it does leak, the filter would keep most of it from coming in. Plus why would you keep the battery on your car if it leaks that much? It would ruin your engine and other compartments too; not just your engine..... As for cold air induction, wouldn't you have cold air coming the black pipe (2nd picture below) where the air filter box used to be connected to? My cold air intake actually makes my car go faster. I can feel the difference........... If it was the same I would have kept the filter box on and I would've sold my intake on ebay. Iono that's just my 3.5 cents.

Actually one of those red hoses connects to this oil backfluid drainer thing on the 5sfe. 7afe doesn't have to worry about it. Just get a breather filter for each of the nipples (find it at autozone, pepboys, etc.) and put those on.

From what I understand the original pipe that comes in from the guard doesnt flow air. It is actually the manifold that sucks air from it. When you disconect it & put a ram pod on then it becomes fairly useless, espeacially caues the hot air from the engine would get to your filter before any air from the original factory pipe.
The heat shield you have are the best things for the exposed pod filters... If you havn't ..try runing a 2.5 or 3 inch pipe from under the car from those air vents on the splash guard under the front & run it up between your raidiator & gear box ..up past or along side your battery & face it toward the air filter & see it the outside cool air helps even more. A tip is to put a stocking over the end of the pipe to stop leaves and cigaret butts from getting into the pipe. If you like the original pipe then do what I saw done to a car in when I was in Sydney (Australia). Some jap had cut holes in the lower part of his front guard between the bumper & the wheel & had those mesh air vents put on.... When I asked him about how he did it..he said he removed the guard..took out the old factory pipe which is connected to a resonating box and ran a 3inch from the original hole & positioned it with wire to hold it in position. Then after the guard was cut & the mesh vent attached he put it back together & used adhesive foam/felt strips to neatly seal any gap between the pipe & the vent so as all the air would go into the pipe. |

Looks good. I like the pics because I'm planning to get an Injen for my Celi too.
How does it sound? And do you really feel a little power gain? |
