My mechanic today just told me if I wanted to convert my celica to a 3sgte all-trac it would cost about $2,700 dollars. Thats right thats including 4wd transmission and labor. He said it would cost the same for a Beams conversion or any conversion I wanted for the Celica. I knew him for a long time, I just didn't know how much he charged for stuff like that. Hes done everything from Honda swaps, Nissan, to Toyota swaps. He's super cheap and super cool too. He only charges about 500 for labor, thats a good deal. He takes care of everything for that price...wiring, removal of engine, dropping it in, putting on the tranny, and if you wanted to add ANYTHING since he's doing that kind of work, like clutch, flywheel, cams, you name it, its part of the deal. He'll even tune it to how you like or want it to be and guess what...thats part of the deal. What do you guys think of that? He's making me think about it now. How much do your mechanics charge and the quality of work.

let me get this straight. 2700 bucks for parts/labor/post-swap tuning to do a 4wd 3sgte swap? thats ridiculously cheap.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

Yupp, he's putting in a 5th gen 3sgte in an MR2 now. I've seen the motor. But he will not use the AWD transmssion for this one though.

Sorry - no f'ing way. He obviously has no idea what he is getting himself into. That seems reasonable for swapping the motor but no way is he going to convert it to AWD for that price. Either you misunderstood him or he has no clue as to what he is getting himself into. See the crazy swap thread and the discussion Lagos and Dr Tweak are having about just this thing.
And whatever you do - don't get Lagos started on the subject LOL.

Yeah at this rate, I'm just going to ship all my customer's cars to Gaum to have the swaps done, mark them up 30%, and still be the cheapest in the US!

LOL!!!

as long as you trust him and have the cash for it, then go for it.
but it's really hard to believe since parts alone can sometimes be more than $2700..

He does about 80% of the swaps here and has never charged way over from what he quotes for. The cheapest swaps he does is about 2500. He has a very good rep here.

His cars that take it to the track hit as low as 12's with official track times. My friend's 4 door GSR-motor civic full interior and exterior hit high 12's and low 13's, N/A with Japan factory parts. That is a good example. Imagine, it is even hot here.

He might charge a little bit over, but hes more of friendly than care about the money.

I'm really thinking of a beams swap.

CJ, let me know what you find out. I'm in Columbus and trying to find the best deal on the swap as well.
