Just had to weigh our car for the move next week (empty weight, then do a loaded weight, get paid for the weight that we move).

The car: 1/8 tank of gas, 99 GT w/Leather interior and sunroof, loaded up, probably about as heavy as it gets, SPOILER REMOVED, Gen II 3S-GTE w/stock 5S tranny, stock 15x7 wheels and 205/55-15 tires.

2700 lbs on the nose. I expected it to come in 100-150 lbs heavier.

Not bad considering leather and all fluids I consider that lightweigh. I wonder what other "sporty" cars weigh under 2800lbs ?

sweet. i always wondered exactly what it was with a 3s in it.

are you having your car shipped? what company are you using, how many miles away and whats a ballpark price they are charging you? i might have to do the same thing in a few months, so im trying to do some research.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

Lagos: We're driving the Celica and the Accord ourselves. I've got a buddy driving the Trans Am out a couple of days later, then I'm flying back later in March to pick up the Vette once the TT install is completed.

CelicaST: Not planning the GT4 conversion right now as money is TIGHT with the prospect of floating two mortgages for a little while.

Consynx: Spare tire and jack are still in the car, thanks for reminding me to pull those out. biggrin.gif As for the fuel, the "standard" used is 6.7 pounds per gallon (that's an air force standard I'm VERY familiar with as I use fueling calculations for aircraft weight and balance on the KC-10).

Laff09: We're moving to Collinsville IL because I'm getting stationed at Scott AFB. We're heading out there next week actually. The Celica is getting a new home in a 30x24 foot three car garage with a nice 2700 square foot people living space attached. biggrin.gif I can't wait.

I honestly think if you wanted to look at some things on the car and do some nitpicking, you could easily drop ~100 or more pounds from the overall weight. If you could get it down to about 2500 lbs I'm sure it would flat out SCREAM in terms of acceleration.

That's good to know. My car with header [dropped some weight over stock I'm sure] and still 5s weighed in at 2700lbs with a 1/4 tank of race gas and me [175lbs] at the track. Still had all accesories: Spare, Jack, 15" Sub, amps etc. I never remove stuff from my car cause I want an accurate time based on the actual car. I wonder if removing all of that would actually make much difference in times anyway. Maybe I'll try to run half my runs without all that stuff just as an experiment next time.

welp, i pulled the density from wikipedia, so whoever posted it was prob just off...
though not sure if auto and aviation use the same chemical makeup for fueling, even if both are called "gasoline"

Last I checked JP8 and regular gasoline for cars was actually fairly close. What did wikidpedia say the weight per gallon was???

lol, iunno
i did the 15gal => m^3 then did the density times that, and ...you know what, i'm so use to using metric, i prob didn't go back to pounds...
i don't THINK i'd make a unit mistake on something so simple...but i don't remember anymore, lol maybe i put it in cu. ft. and just....eh

i do it again:
i can't pull up the same thing i had last time, but i got this off wikipedia's gasoline:
737.22 kg/m3
15gal =0.05678177m^3
737.22*0.05678177 = 41.86kg (yup, i didn't convert, lol)
41.86*9.81 = 410.65N
410.65N = 92.31lb

sorry for goin off my train of thought on this post...yea, i made a mistake though
full tank of gas should be ~100lb IF (IF!!!) Wikipedia's density is right.

Damn, that's actually heavier than I thought.
I was under the impression a 6th gen Celica was closer to 2500 lbs....

Oh, and I wouldn't necessarily trust Wikipedia.
Anyone can edit it.

You could hop on and edit so 1 gal of fuel weighs 40 lbs.
Or 2 ounces.....

they probably are around 2500 stock. the 3sgte adds a fair bit of weight, because its a much larger motor then the 5sfe/7afe. 2700 is GREAT for a turbo car!

laugh.gif Good one!! I have the directions there and back memorized from our house back to the NJ area. biggrin.gif Straight down 70 to the PA turnpike to 76 through Philly. It's so simple it's not even funny, it just takes 14 hours each way.

We'll be back in the area from time to time so if a meets going on and we have the Celica, we'll show. Unfortunately, it's not our favorite car to spend multitudes of hours in, so odds of us bringing it out are rather slim. But boy do I have a pic to post for you guys later, but that's a new thread. I'll leave it at this: I LOVE the new house. biggrin.gif
