Does anybody experiences this? When going over rough roads, like on dirt or un even pavement, theres a clunking coming from the steering wheel, it seems to comes from somewhere under the gauge cluster. Almost like a plastic-ish sound. it really goes like cluk cluk cluk!!! ..its kinda bothersome mad.gif

Also, if I turn the wheel left and right its like I can reprodue the sound just lower,,I dunno how to explain,,

I think I know the problem u guys have, the steering coloum is attached to the body with for bolts, just tighten them and all will be good, I had that problem but I figured it out.

The only thing you have to remove is the plastic where there is the bonnet lever to see under the coloum wink.gif

I took the bottom panel of, and there's another panel under it, I re tighten all the bolt but nothing loose enough to make my steering vibrate.

I looked at where the steering enters the firewall and it enters a big rubber tube..nothing I can touch there.

I also removed the shroud around the column (where the blinker/wiper levers are) and everything seems tight. I even checked the steering rack..looks solid, thsi is driving me nuts!!!!!

I don't have as severe as a problem as you guys but there is a rattle that goes away when I put pressure on my steering wheel. However, it's only because of my incredibly stiff motor mounts otherwise there would be no noise. I'll have to take a look and see if I can tighten those bolts just a bit.

I'm starting to think it might be the u-joints that are a little worn, and I bet toyota don't give them for free

Guys you can Also try and thighten Up the Subframe, if it is only doing it on rough roads there could be a chance of that or it could be simply a ball joint wink.gif

I had 2 bolts that where slightly loose on the subframe and it too me ages to figure out where the noise was coming from. There are 2 bolt that connect the subframe to the hub the bolt on connected to the subframe was slightly loose as it takes alot to tighten, the trick is dont jack the car look for that are witch is mounted on a bush and lay on the floor and reach to tighten it on both wheels. Then jack the car and tighten up the rest of the Sub frame to be sure. All you need is a 19mm spanner or ratchet and socket wink.gif

Tell me how it goes ...
