Ya.. board rivals with someone who is here to strictly make money.. charging 8g or better to drop an engine in.

And yes, I'm telling you that I can do better and for cheaper... stuff that in your pipe and smoke it.

Oh, and I can tig too... I'll take pictures of the intake manifold I'm making right now. Maybe I can replicate it for people to buy.. only 900 dollars introductory price!! I'll include it in a swap.. along with a bastardized intercooler for only 10 grand!

That's pretty much true.. if you so desire to worship a wallet raper.

If I charged someone 8grand for a swap that would include an engine that was stripped down, completely cleaned inside and out (bead blasted intake manifold, valve cover, jet washed head, tank the block.. etc) with all new seals, gaskets and piston rings and a balanced bottom end.. engine included with full 3" mandrel bent exhaust system..

I call BS. Itemize it.

You charge $1500 for swap? Well, so do I.

Here's a HIGH END 3SGTE swap, itemized. Most swaps cost less than this:

Let's do a 3SGTE swap real quick just for a good comparison (most of this is taken from my "3SGTE Swap Checklist" thread, but I'm updating some things)

Good 2nd gen 3SGTE Engine set $1500 ($1900 for a 3rd gen)
Shipping $350
Front-mount intercooler, piping, clamps, couplers $600 to $1000 depending on intercooler quality
Performance clutch kit $350
Aussie downpipe $350 shipped
Misc (Fuel pump, filters, fluids, etc) $600
Labor for swap, wiring, AND custom-install of front-mount and piping $1800
Full stainless-steel, mandrel-bent custom-built 3" exhaust system $950

Total basic 3SGTE swap into a GT $6500 to $7300

For an ST, add the GT tranny, axles, mounts, custom a/c and p/s lines, for an additional $1000, so total is around $7500. For an automatic, add an additional $600 for the manual conversion and parts.

A few dollars can be saved here an there, but there's no gouging going on here. I work on Toyotas because that's what I love working on, and while I do have to make money to put food on the table, I never have and never would overcharge people. I spend a great deal of time every time I do a swap looking for better, cheaper suppliers and better deals. And the labor is more than fair.

And tweak... this comment is nothing against you, but you gotta see the following you have from each build thread to the next! You are very popular here. tongue.gif

Yes - because other people trying to get good info across about build quality, parts, labor etc are always attacked by your 6gc soldiers defending, or supporting you till death, and it gets in the way of actual information.

Sorry, but you have been owned.gif

In no way did that statement own anything.
This is Tweak's and Angrymike's thread about 2slow's car. The three of you need to STFU and get your own "I think Dr.Tweak sux because he gets all the business I want" thread. Can we get back to topic now?

Perfect example. Also, this has NOTHING to do with getting tweaks business. cwm13.gif

so, i've been on a couple of other boards before building stuff and i've gotten some flack in the begining there too. i know that saturns are funny, but what most people don't realize is that because i started with saturns, i have a lot more experience dealing with custom builds. there isn't aftermarket support for those cars, so i had to start from scratch. because of this i had about 5 different turbo kits on my personal vehicle trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. i did all of this before i ever built a customer car or offered a mail order product. i did my reading, but i also did my homework too. i have never had an issue with my welding, fitment or fabrition because of my expesive experimenting. this is why i do this for a living.

i realize that i'm faily new to toyotas and i'm not going to say i make a superior product to some of you that are here and have been here.

the whole reason tweak introduced me is because i'm working with him now. if any of you are interested in have tweak do a swap and wiring for you, now you have an opiton to get some high quality fabrication done as well. while there are other builders that have the same if not better quality then i do, feel free to include them in your search for a shop to do you work for you.

$900 is a pretty good price for a 4 to 1 manifold. on average one of those manifolds takes 20~30 hours to build expecially if its custom (which this one would be). our shop rate is $80 an hour, so if you do the math, $900 is a pretty good deal. i always included a lifetime warranty on an manifold that i produce as well.

i stand by my product and i've only had success.

as far as runner length, materials and construction. these can be disputed on every level.

i build my product for fitment, reliability and power. in that order. there is no point making a bunch of power with a manifold that cracks or hits.

No this is just fact. STFU already. And for you it has to do with you and your swap. it's personal and it's lame. Take your BS elsewhere. i for one have learned something in this thread - converting a FMIC over to same side entry/exit. I want that for my 5S-FTE project. You are just in here being an a$$. Start your own thread.

side noted here is a cast iron one that showed up lately
IPB Image
IPB Image

that looks like cast stainless weld L's. i wouldn't think thats cast iron. same thing my manifolds are made of, but they brushed the welds after construction.

as far as comparing between welds goes (pictures of mr2). the welding in the first picture shown was terrible. there was too much heat and poor control during welding. when welds occur like that with stainless, the chrome and nickle are essentially burned out of the metal leaving a very brittle sub-par stainless.

the second picture (pictures of mr2) was much better. either somone got better at welding or they learned how to use the pulse feature to cover up any sub par welding.

Few important things you need to read (I recommend twice):

1.) It has NOTHING to do with getting tweaks business. PERIOD.
2.) It has NOTHING to do with my swap. PERIOD.
3.) I never said you cannot learn stuff from tweak. PERIOD.

word, i'm not trying to knock ya down mike but gotta put everything through the tests wink.gif
i'm personally for function > form
so manifolds for me have to be able to last through long periods of hard driving (ie road course) were they HAVE to be on top of their game because they endure much more then any drag racer abuse will prove.
another question is do you design for the exhaust pulses as well, spiraling or what not? i'm not very familiar with this but maybe you could shed some light smile.gif

look forward to seeing some cool stuff!
