Hey Guys,
Tonight I went to the track with a bunch of my friends to see what my car could run before I do my 20 valve silver top 4A-GE swap, and I ended up lined up against a Viper GTS with exhaust on one of my four runs. wink.gif We took off and I got completely smoked all the way through the race! The Viper ran a 12.4 and I ran a 17.7, which was the fastest of my four runs. My slowest run was an 18 flat. Tomorrow I can get the slips out of my friend's car and I can get some exact numbers.

How does my track time compare to other ST track times for the quarter mile? Keep in mind that I had a slow reaction time of about .6-.8 on every one of my runs.

Also, if anyone's curious, here's a pic of the Viper that was at the track.

Don't you just hate it when you get stacked up against a faster car? wink.gif

The fastest car that I ever ran against was a 3000GT at Sear Point Raceway... I had like a 3 sec handicap, and that fugger caught up out of nowhere. I think he ran something around 13.2

Anyway... your rims probably slowed you down bro. That's what happened to me when I had my 16's installed. I posted my time slip in this thread, in case you didn't see yet...

Don't think reaction time has any effect on your ET.

Of course it does, if the clock starts from when the tree drops and you're not moving well... enough said. A lot of places just say .5 second correction time, and take that off your ET. But even more don't.

great run if you ask me.

if that viper were to tow you down the strip, you would probably get like a 14. lol

my first run was against one of the most highly modded civic hatches i have ever seen in person, intimidated me and made me get a 1.6RT compaired to his .7, i kept up till about 20mph, then he left me far behind

That'd be cool to do that stuff. How much does it cost? Where can I look for places that I can do that. I'd love to see what my little old ST can do smile.gif

Costs:
Track fees: $100
New Tires (the old ones are now "one with the track"): $500
New transmission (so thats why the manual says don't dump the clutch):$1000
A little piece of paper that tells you your car ain't meant to race: Priceless

Just watch others race. See if someone who has a ST can send you a photocopy of their drag results. its a lot cheaper. Check major cities around you if you're interested, but racing is really hard on a car. I don't mean to rain on your parade, but celicas (stock, especially an st) just aren't race cars. Save up an buy a supra, or do the engine swap for the 3sgte then take it to the tracks.

No RT doesnt matter to ET. The clocks starts as soon as your car moves, not at the green light wink.gif

correct, Reaction time does not count towards your ET. The reaction time is how long from when the light turns green til your car passes the starting line. Your ET starts when you cross the starting line til the end.

The Viper owner was really cool by the way. I asked if I could take some pics of his car, and he was like "Sure, want me to close the hood for you?"

I just can't wait to run my car once I get my swap done. biggrin.gif

By the way ScoobyDooCruiser, it only costs $15 to race here on Wednesday nights, and you can go as much as you want. I only went four times, but some of my friends went eight or so times. smile.gif

You should have had the dude pull off six of his spark plug wires, that way he'd have as many cylinders as you running. smile.gif

and you might have had a chance too!

same at LACR.

but with student ID, its only $5!!!

its a lot of fun to go and watch and race. last time i went there was a 1995 mustang 5.0 that ran 8's!!!!!!!!

on his last run, he wanted to try a little harder and shift harder/faster. popped a wheelie off the line, popped another one shifting into second, shifted into 3rd, popped another wheelie, and started weaving around. he ended up driving an extra 100 ft in the 1/4 mile.

still got a way way better time than my car.

i have also had guys with older celicas ask to race me.

Viper versus a Celica ST....mmm David and Goliath, you should a brought
a few pebbles and a slingshot biggrin.gif

The viper driver sounds cool, wasn't in your face about it. Thats what
I like to see, an enthusiast who's modest. It's the taking part Coomer
but winning once in a while would be nice........
