well, i took the car in to toyota for a CEL, and also as a pre turbo checkup, well, after they stole $72 for a diagnostic check, they told me that the EGR VSV was leaking. so they said it would be an estimated $260 for parts and labor, in addition to the $72 for the diagnostic.

what really pissed me off is that it was not covered in the toyota gold warranty that i have on my car.

btw, shouldnt emissions equipment be covered? its drivetrain right?

any way, i was pretty pissed. so i said no to the repair, went and did a computer job, got some panda express and went to work on the car.

turns out that none of the auto parts stores around here have the part, all say its a dealer only part rolleyes.gif

the dealer had it for $113 + tax, but it would take a week to come in.

i took the part off and using my chiltons manual, i tested it and it passed all the tests. cleaned the connectors, and put it back on. started the car, and BAM, CEL was gone, and after driving 100 miles today it did not come back on. w00t! so now that $260 covers most of the cost of the SAFC2 i should be getting tomorrow

so yeah now im gonna get myself an obd2 scanner and do the $72 diagnostic by myself.
