Hi guys,

Just wanted to say before I ask my newb question, that I am glad this site is here. Some of you have some very impressing rides, while others provide great information.

My question (Please don't beat me with "You damn newb" comments, I already said I was one) to you all is this. I know my 95 Celica GT is not meant for high performance and such. Although I seen the GT4 and want to ask if it is worth the money to do this engine swap, and what might have to be done or considered when doing a smog test (Yes I live in California) to pass. If it will even pass.

I am looking for a general price range for labor to do this swap, including transmission and such. I have never got a chance to do something with a car that I owned, because of bad luck, but now I can and I can't seem to find another car at the moment. So might as well work with what I got.

I am also looking for a good catback exhaust system (Limited myself to eBay and can't seem to find one) for my car as well. Just for starters. I know I posted this in the wrong part, but since my question is regarding the Exhaust, Engine Swap, and Labor (Plus any other helpful information), then why not here. Okay, so please, don't flame me, I already feel stupid asking for a little help. Any response would be greatly appreciated. I just wanted to know if basically, it is possible to turn this poor old GT into a GT4 and still have it somewhat legal or able to pass emissions (even if maybe I have to take off a few things like cold air intake, turbo, etc..) here in California. Anyone have knowledge on this subject matter? I would forever be in your favor, and will sacrifice a kidney one day if you need it..... or maybe my first child..... or a crack at my future wife.... or something....... LOL Thanks Guys!

The swap would be alright in cali so long as you pull the 3S-GTE from a 96+ GT-4, and you will probably want to find someone who accepts bribes, because even then you might not get past the sniffer tongue.gif . I can't really speak much for parts and labor, but most 3S guys will probably suggest saving up ~6K for the swap, because you will want to replace a few things before it gets dropped in. An exhaust will be hard to find, because Greddy is the only real company that manufactured a system for us. Your best bet is to find a nice Magnaflow muffer, or any muffler you like, and bring it to a good exhaust shop and have them fabricate an exhaust system for you. Welcome to the forums. It seems to be a general disclaimer to use the search function often, as it will prove to be your friend! smile.gif

damn noob questions.... lol, jk. welcome to the site. unfortunately for us californians, jdm engines are a no no... no matter what year. so just get the swap done and might as well slap on any extra performance parts you want and just pay a couple hundred once a year for smog. there are a few members in cali with a 3s swap. ask them where they go for smog. where in cali are you located?

Damn, and here my roommates were telling me different things. Like the engine and stuff has nothing to do with smog, and that there are a few things that can be switched around and taken off and stuff to pass emissions with the engine. But I would imagine they would have to take a look at it. Perhaps I might have to throw a few extra dollars (Breaking the Bank) at someone. I am in Bakersfield, CA. No one has heard of Bakersfield, unless they know where "Korn" is from (Don't look at me, I appreciate their talent or whatever, but not a fan in the slightest). I am about 2 hours north of Los Angeles.

LOL I was going to say that too. I figured I would leave it up to someone else. I would hate for someoen to be like "that is something a newb would say". But it is funny. What are your thoughts on people with excess stickers on their cars? I just laugh.
