Would you buy a stock 92 MR2T $4000. Or do a 3stge in 6gc?

duece has 150,XXX. Bone stock. Slight leak from oil pan. No rust.

If I buy it I'll keep my 6gen as a DD.

What would you do?

There aren't many MR2T in MN. 3-4 that I know of...

it IS 15 yrs. old.

but it IS a mr-2 T.

if you put a 3s in your celica then you're gonna be out of a car for a lil while.
i say DO BOTH! muahaha

drive the mr2 T while you put a 3s in your celica. or you can think clearly about practicality.

MR2 TURBO!!! I always wanted one for myself (strictly daily driven/weekend drift car) that's why I would consider a it rare opportunity.

rwd turbo is a plus. but yeah, its a 15 year old car. if you swap a 3s, it'll most likely have less mileage on the engine. costs will be around the same. swap will probably be cheaper though. and you'll spend more fixing up the mr2. but yeah, its all up to you.

lot of miles on the 2. but 4k isnt bad at all if its in good condition. tough decision. i love mr2s. not as good looking as a 6gc, but for the price, its the closest thing to a ferrari. depending on the condition of the mr2, i would buy it for its potential. if you plan on keeping the 2 stock, then i would rather suggest swapping your celica.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

the mr2 turbo will also be usdm which is significantly less power than the jdm youd swap into your celica, and the swap would have lower miles.

Go with the mr2t. Biggest reasons:

(1) Not FWD
(2) No post swap issues
(3) Less depreciation

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

how so?

all the good MR2T's around here cost like 7k-10k. I couldn't possibly see how a 15 year old car with 100K+ miles could be worth 10k, but hey, it is an awesome car. and honestly, I would rather have one than a 3s swapped celi because it's RWD, and it doesn't weigh much more. plus, it's even rarer than a 6gc. the only downsides I see is 1: it's only a 2-seater, so you can't have more than one person in the car, which might be problematic if it's a daily driver. 2: it's mid-engine, which, I think, would make it much harder to work on!

You answered your own question. Don't forget the added drive train stress the car puts on by being MR.
But Hey don't listen to me - I only have to work on several of them constantly to the point that I don't get the chance to work on mine almost at all. What do I know? rolleyes.gif

oh, you mean, the fact that it's mid engine so it's hard to work on? I thought you meant that things would constantly go wrong with them, and I was wondering what kind of problems they commonly had.

No I mean both. They have serious cooling issues for starters. I think quite a bit of it has to do with the way people drive them though. You don't see many MR2T's being driven by someones grandmother. A lot of them are garage kept weekend cars - and what do you do when you take out your weekend toy? Drive it very hard. That means that for the lifetime of the car it was driven hard. At least that's my expereince with second hand MR2T's.
My frineds fuel pump just went out last night on a 93 MR2T with only 80K on the clock. Kept blowing EFI fuses and it took us all night to figure out what it was. No CEL for that one rolleyes.gif
Bottom line - if reliability is your goal - keep the Celica. If you want a car that's a bit more fun to drive [for some] - get the 2.
Edit - BTW if you want to work out the backs of your legs - work on a 2 for 3 hours straight [if you've ever worked on one you know what I'm talking about]. It takes almost that long to pull the Turbo and intercooler and piping. And don't even get me started on the "hose from hell".

while id love an mr2, the JDM is a much better starting point than the USDM motor. its a feat for a stock mr2 with the boost turned up to hit 200 wheel, where as a JDM motor + boost controller = 230 whp at least

that reasoning right there would make me do the swap.

itchys plan is good though

Got a nice MKI shell with sunroof for sale super cheap. It could even come with Volk racing rims plus stockies if you're interested.
EDIT - I know you're looking for MKII but thought I'd throw that out there.
