Hey Guys,

For the past 2 years now, my car has not been on the road. I took my car to a MR2 specialist's shop two years ago, who said he could do my swap for $600 within two weeks. He's known as the MR2 Guru, and he's on the MR2 online club forums.

Anyways, needless to say, he didn't get my car running. He couldn't figure out the wiring, so he told me my wiring kit was messed up....and that it would cost a lot more in order for him to get it to work. So I had my wiring sent to DG Performance, and he charged me $400 to get it done. When Dave (DG Performance) sent it back to the shop, the MR2 Guru guy said there were several plugs missing from the wiring and that he mixed up some orange wires and stuff. Anyways, I know Dave has a good reputation, so I didn't know who to believe.

As far as the swap goes, the 3sgte engine is in the car with the right clutch and flywheel. The resistor pack, afc, coil pack, igniter, and everything works fine.

The car would turn over but it won't fire. The MR2 Guru guy told me that it was probably due to a lost signal to start up my fuel injectors. So it was a wiring issue. He guaranteed me that he checked all the grounds and that we got all the grounds and everything. He also told me that he put a noise light or whatever to the wires to the fuel injectors and said he got no signal.

After 2 years of no progress and full of excuses from the shop, I decided to take my car away from the shop.

My friend who's done a lot of motor swaps told me that it could be timing issues or something else.

I am not sure what is going on, but I was wondering if anybody on this forum is willing to help me get my car running again. If you live fairly close to North Carolina.....I could probably tow my car to you to work on it. Please let me know!! Thank you!!!

Make sure you have the correct ecu for the year the car was wired for. I had a similar issue.

JDM 185 ecu's-
89661-20750=89/10-90/03(superceeded to 20751)
89661-20751=90/03-91/08
89661-2b310=91/08-92/02
89661-2b280=91/08-93/09

If everything you can think of checks out, why dont you spend $20.00 and send it back to who did the harness and have it checked out? Or you could pay Dr. Tweak to check over it. Keep us updated.

There is an earth right down the back of the engine under the inlet manifold which is where you`ll find the earth for the injectors...this is often forgotten about and very hard to see. A so called proffessional mechanic spent 2 days going over a car from front to back to find out what was causing a very similar problem to what you have and after numerous tests with flashy computers and diagnostics machines, came up with nothing and gave up....twenty minutes of swearing and getting cut to peices refitting this missing earth and the car fired up on the second turn of the key and has run sweet ever since.

From reading your post I think you're the guy who called me yesterday or the day before, but if you're not, I'm located in Savannah which isn't a bad drive from Raleigh, if you want to bring it to me and I'll finish it for you.

Hey Doc! I am not the guy who called you because I haven't called you yet. From where the car is located now, it should take a little more than 5 hours to get it to you. I would definitely bring my car to you if I had the time. I think what I'll most likely do is take off all the wiring and have it sent to somebody, either you or Dave (the one who did my wiring) and see what is wrong with it.

Feel free to send it on down and I'll check it over. I have a feeling that someone who knows what they're doing is actually going to have to get their hands on the car though.

I was actually planning on just taking it to you in the first place but that MR2 Guru guy had me convinced he would be able to get it working.......I should of just taken it to someone in the 6gc community and not the MR2OC peeps. kindasad.gif frown.gif

Yes, for ground signal.

I've offered to look over his harness and fix anything that is wrong free of charge.

well, to get the motor just simple running
just run the ignition and fuel checks. . .

getting a motor to start doesn't take many wires,
getting it to run right does.

best of luck
