ok, well my dad and i have found a company that provides engine rebuild kits for both the celica and the geo prism, i know that Geo did use the 7-AFE motor in their prisms for several years, my question: is there any difference what so ever in the 7-AFE that was in a 94 prism and that of a 7-AFE that was in a 94 celica? The reason for asking is that the kit for the celica goes for $220 more than that of the prism, even though they are both listed with the exact same name, size, and all. So if anyone does know of any difference, please let me know. Any knowledge is greatly appreciated.

heres how it is. theres 4 7afe's.

obd1 fed spec
obd1 cali spec
obd2 fed spec
obd2 cali spec

just make sure to get the correct year, as far as i know the 7afe between the 2 is EXACTLY the same given that both motors are of the same year/same spec and obd generation

ok sounds great. I wasnt looking at anything electronic about the engines, i guess more specifically the internals. But yes, it makes sense that the engines are the same year and spec, then the internals will be exactly the same, it would have been very counter productive for toyota to make diff. internals just to sell to GM for their Prism. Thx for the info...anyone else know if there may be any internal differences? any at all, even if they are minor. Thx

the 7a that's in the 94-95 Celicas are all cali spec, there was no federal spec for our cars. I don't know about the prism though.

how do i know if mine was cali spec, i mean u say there were no federal spec. so im guessing the cali spec had the two catalytic converters from the factory? is this the easiest way to tell?

94's were OBD1 and if you had only one cat below the car then it was fedspec. calispec OBD1 have a warmup cat attached to the exhaust manifold.\

same statement holds true of the GT.

not true.

all of my info is for a Celica ST 7afe.
All of the 94+ celica ST 7afes are cali spec. All USDM 94-95 STs have 2 cats, one right under the exhaust mani and one under the car. All USDM 96-97 STs have one under the car. This is how the ALL came from the factory.

as for GTs,
94 fed has 1 cat
94 cali has 2
95+ have 2

as for the 7a in a rolla/prism, I have no clue.

Batman, thanks for all the info, but do you know of any differences in the internals of either egine between the celica and the prism? i mean it seems crazy that toyota would have made two lightly diff. engines but named them the same. But so far, no one has mentioned anything about diffs. in the internals, so i assume it is safe to conclude that the celica 7-afe and the prism 7-afe are the same motor (same years of course), just put into different cars. thx for all the info and help guys.

I would assume 7AFE of the same year, OBD, etc. are exactly the same.

so whats included in this engine rebuild kit and who makes it ?
