it doesn't control timing, however any corrections you make while tuning it will affect timing.

remove fuel = stock ecu advances timing
add fuel = stock ecu retards timing

ahh thanx the guy at the dyno told me as long as my controler can control air to fuel ratio and timing then he could tune my car no prob this makes me happy lol biggrin.gif

if thats what he told you, then the safc wouldnt be able to do it. you would need something like an smt6 or emange that can control fuel and timing, independently of each other.

I'm pretty sure you need a laptop to control it. but, if you are having somebody else tune it, then they probably already have a laptop.
