Ok so who went with tanabe coilovers instead of tein coilovers? and how do you like them? did you get the ones with the helper spring or not and what was the reason? Is there any reason y i wouldnt get the one with the helper spring? I know tanabes are not adjustable like teins but the tanabes have a stiffer sprig rate then the teins. Plus for me adjusting might be a pain in the butt as ill always want to play with it.

The reason why i ask is because after reading all the coilover threads most of the ppl on the board seem to have gone with teins and i havnt read one speck on anyones views with the tanabe coilovers. Other then tein and tanabe are there any other companies that make a full coilover and strut set up that wouldnt be a custom job? Ive recently seen D2 making coilovers for our cars but how r those?

as a side note i also plan on using ST swaybars front and rear.

from what ive seen this whats out there

tein
spring rate 7.0/5.0
adjustable
monotube???

tanabe
spring rate 8.0/6.0
non adjustable
daul chamber (not so good for wear right???)
helper spring

D2
spring rate 7.5/5.1
adjustable
monotube (good idea for wear right???)

i figured that with the tanabe's ill lose adjustablity, which i dont mind as its one less thing to mess around with, however ill gain a stiffer spring rate and the helper spring should help with comfort a bit.

thinking about going with these instead

very similar if not the same as the D2's but with a spring rate like the teins 7/5, but unlike the teins it has an adjustable lower mount so i can adjust ride height with out affecting shock travel

plus like the d2's its a monotube design which tanabes are not.

so y the orange over the purple d2's... simply cus im also not intrested in ksports bbk which have orange calipers instead of the purple ones d2 has. both look exactly the same but the orange would compliment the blue lip on the weds sports sa90's i plan on getting (check out my other post too please)

same here, i prefer them over tein just b/c they have the upper pillow ball mounts. they are about 50 bucks cheaper, i just dont know the lowering specs for them.

im really not a fan of the orange (cuz i have a purple car) i wa looking into tanabe and JIC's cuz they match but they didnt seem to work for me

From what I've heard, Ksport and D2 coilovers are manufactured by the same company in Taiwan. No idea about Tanabe coilovers though.

thats what i have heard as well. ive also heard that d2 had some valving problems in the begining the gas would leak out.

i decided against d2 and ksports based on some personal accounts as well as their over all reputation.

i think im going with tanabe's

i really think ksport would be the best bet, im just gunna have to accept the fact that they are orange.

i looked for jic's and came up blank too, k's seem more reasonable
no edfc options like tein tho frown.gif

Craig i think you should go with the teins... the tanabe's are non-adjustable and the same price as the teins so you'd be getting more of your money's worth out of the teins than with the tanabe

but the tanabes have a stiffer springrate then teins and have a helper spring something that the teins dont have

i just think that since the celi is your daily driver you might want something that you can drive on comfortably during the week and then when you feel like driving hard you have the option to adjust the suspension to a stiffer setting. just my opinion.

yeah i thought about that and then i remembered how lazy i am lol and how probably wouldnt even change the setting from hard to soft lol.

im probably guna go with the tanabes. i figure with the aid of helper spring i should be ok. Plus my drive is only like 14 miles to work all on the freeway so i should be to upset at the stiffer ride

the tanabe's are a little more than teins and ksport, and they arent adaptable with teas
wait are you getting the S-OC or S-OCII?

oh wait now i just took a look at the d2 coilovers and they look alright, honestly im trying to get the cheapest coilovers that preform pretty good, i'm gunna have to decide between d2's and tanabes

I don't know if this factors into your consideration, but a Tanabe rep pointed out to me that the coilovers are actually made by a different company.. I think KYB. If you look at the actual coilover, if even has the KYB label on it. I would check that out to make sure.

A lot of the coilover setups are made by third party vendors, and on a lot of boards people are arguing about whether the build quality of name-brand coilovers such as Apexi, Megan, Greddy, etc. are the same because they came from the same manufacturers such as Bor Chuan in Taiwan.

im probably going with tanabe's as they have the stiffest springrate and i dont mind them not being adjustable as im probably not going to adjust the shocks at all if i get the teins. Plus i would much rather have a stiffer springrate as my daily driving distance is very little and i would like my car to perform the same all the time so i can get use to it rather then having to adjust between two different stiffnesses.

now the only thing is to decided between getting the tanabes with or with out the helper spring.

what do you guys think?

other then ride comfort what are the up and downs of a helper spring?

well the purpose of the helper springs is to fill the slack whne the suspension is raised or lowered, and you said that you probably wont be doing that. but it still provides extra comfort, and for 200 buck more i kinda still would go with it.
