impact drills are the bombdiggity. That'll get the job done. The most important thing about impact wrenches/drills is that they do not overtorque so it doesnt twist the heads of screws off (I used one 5-6 days a week, 8 hours a day at work for 2 summers and it NEVER overtorqued screws, given it was a DeWalt but that doesn't really matter they are all built relatively the same.) Almost any piece of crap drill, will drill though a panel. The sheetmetal
on our cars is super thin. My cordless cost 19.99 at harbor frieght and it had no problems drilling 6 holes 3/32 dia thu fiberglass and panel, with the same crappy bit the drill came with. I work at a machine shop so I could use our shops dewalt and cobalt or even carbide bits, there is simply no need. A good sharp high speed steel bit and a cordless that is turning over 500 rpm will do the job just fine. The more rpms the better untin you get up to 3000 or so then you start burning bits at a rapid rate. I use 3000 as an example for a small diameter bit, a larger bit burns up at lower rpms. 75 sfpm(surface feet per minute) is a safe surface speed for mild steel X 4 (pie rounded)= 300 300 / diameter of bit in my case .093" = 3225. 3200 is the highest rpm you should turn otherwise you will burn up bits all day long, a larger drill would be slower than that. The formula is the same just divide 300 by the dia bit you are using. Different materials run different sfpm. This formula is for mild steel, aluminum would be considerably faster, and stuff like stainless or titainium would be slower. -------------------- JDM guy made me do it.

hmm. i dont know, cuz liek the front and rear bumper arent metal so i can drill through it with ease, but the quarter panel im trying to drill through is tough. the drill just keeps spinning and spinning and not getting anywehre.
