Well, my Celica........died. and I had the mechanic give me an estimate, and it's gonna be like $7,000 to fix it, and the car is only worth like $4,500. So I'm getting a new car. any suggestions on what I should get?

7k?..damn! if everything else is fine with the car, i'd just do an engine swap. you can get a 3sgte swapped for cheaper than that

yeah, he said the labor was gonna be like $1,500 and the motor is going to be anywhere for $3,000 to $6,000 dollars. I think I'm gonna drop either a 5S-FE into it, or a 4A-GE. my dad has a buddy that owns a racing shop so he's gonna try and hook me up. I couldn't sell the Celi, this site rocks too hardcore. I'll keep you updated on what happens. If I get a new motor I'll be putting a 5 speed in instead of an AT.

you could probably get another used 7afe for like $500. maybe less. maybe spend a couple hundred more to have it rebuilt. then just drop it in. I don't see it costing 7,000 unless he bought the engine brand new from the dealership piece by piece and put it all together. biggrin.gif

I got my 7AFE for 300 and 300 for installation with new gaskets, water pump , timing belt , all fluids and spark plugs and warranty on top of that.

for 7 K I can go pick up your car, bring it to my mechanic have it all done drive it back and then go on vacation for like 2 months with the rest of the money.

don't worry. a 5sfe is worth about the same. in fact, you could probably get a used USDM 3sgte for about that too.

If you're dropp;ing in a new engine, you may as well build a hybrid 7A-GE!

7A-FE 1.8L bottom end + 4A-GE head = win-win, torque + rev-happy!
