I would post on a supra forum, but they're douches and I think you guys know more about cars anyway. Anyway, it was a NA Auto but now has no engine or trans. It is prepped for a 6 speed install, would a manual conversion cause issues with emmisions? I know some people here have done manual conversions so I'm hoping it doesn't. Also, I will be putting in a NA bottom end engine probably running a small turbo setup, will this cause emmision issues? I appreciate any input!

depends on your year and the motor it came with originally
manual tranny swap won't have anything to do with emissions |

For the turbo, I know that emissions would test the car for whatever the VIN says, which would be a NA. If I had a small turbo on, could I turn the boost all the way down and pass emmisions that way?

6spd V160 tranny is >$2000
2jz-ge is your best bet, w/ a W58 tranny. you can turbot he na motor like DG did, and many others and make sik power. to be able to raise boost, changing the headgasket is highsly suggested. W58 isn't really good for high levels of boost. it's an expensive car to build. . . i don't know emissions shhtuufff. -------------------- |

i would say go with the W58 too. If your gonna keep it N/A or gonna run low boost and turbo it, it would be better thing. If you did turbo the 2JZ motor though, as for emmisions, down tune it b4 you go, run low boost, and get a good quality cat. If your VIN reads N/A and the car is turboed, it will still try and get the numbers for a N/A car, so you might b a bit screwed over there, but maybe if you can talk to the tech whos running the e-test and get him to run it as a TT supra. You never know, the guy could run it as a TT supra in the first place because he sees the turbo. OR you could get the e-test done b4 you turbo it.

why would the trans. effect emissions?

In the part of MD I'm in I need to emmision every two years. The W58 is a solid trans, but if I'm going auto-manual why not just do a V160 or V161. They can hold way more power and if I get a hold of a tt lsd (and a custom driveshaft), I'll be set no matter how much I build it in the future. I will probably get the 2jz-ge engine because the only difference between that and the 2jz-gte's bottom end is oil squirters. I'd lower compression probably with a thinner HG like Valo said. From there I want to run a simple small NA-T setup. Probably some of DaveH's stuff, maybe bigger later on. But that's all hypothetical if I buy it.
I just wanted to see if I did put in any manual and turbo if it would make a difference. I think I could talk the guy doing it into grading me as a turbo... I hope, and yea I geuss manual won't make a difference. Thanks for the ideas! |
