geez this is about the most maint i've ever had to do my car in my 9 yrs of owning it.
k two weeks ago had a caliper seige, got em replaced thought that was the end of it. About a week later I got a horrible loud ass grinding noise whenever the car started to go forward, but it would go away when I got up to speed. From my past experience you dont keep driving when a noise is that bad, so I got it home. It sat for a few days and I got it to the shop. After a couple hours they determine the bearing was bad. What I dont under stand is that their was no whinning woop woop sound from the bearing that indicates it was going bad. Anyway the bearing was completly toast but that is not the bad news. When they popped the bearing out we saw what the real problem was. When the caliper seiged it wore down the seals of the bearing, the bearing then separated and lost all the grease. Then I t got so hot that the steering hub, knuckle, seals, and parts of the bearing all melted and fused toghether! They could nt even find one bearing becuase it melted and coated around the housing. Mechanic says I was a day or two away from my wheel locking up, that would of sucked it that happened while i was driving, can we say totaled, I'm actually lucky. Then too add insult to injury I have to wait to wednesday or thursday for the new hub and knuckle to arrive damn this sucks all becasue a caliper went bad...........sorry to type a book I had to vent. -------------------- |

That does suck.
I always try to check my cars over when they are on the lift for any mechanical faults. It has worked so far, but some things like this are just unavoidable. It just really sucks when it happens. |

Yeah I never knew your wheel would actually seige cuz of something like that. But I'm still stupped I had a bearing go out liek 5 yrs ago and it had a whinng woomp woomp noise, and I never got that this time, just one day I had a horrible grind, and took it to the shop that day.
If I didin get it fixed, and that happend on the interstate my car would look worst then easternpro1 was is right now -------------------- |

Wait, how the heck did the caliper wear the bearing seal?
That makes absolutely no sense to me.... I can see it tearing up your rotor, but not that? How long was it seized for? How bad was it seized? -------------------- |

caliper was sieged for a day
but like i said the bearing never made a noise indicating it was wearing down. so how does a good bearing go bad that quick, it had to be cuz the seiged caliper adding the hella extra stress cuz it caused the car to horribly pull to that side cuz in fact it was slowing down the wheel, so i can see how that would quickly wear a bearing out -------------------- |
