I used to have a T28 with a log style manifold on my car and now I have a GT32 turbo and was planning on doing the B16 manifold with a JGS Tools flange . So I take my parts back to the shop that WAS going to do it and they say that they can't do it.
Because the holes on the flange are too small for the piping, so I had a machine shop here drill them out to 10 thousandths larger than the diameter of the piping- so I thought that I had the problem fixed. Then I take it back to the shop and they say that they still can't do it because the holes don't line up. The two middle holes line up reasonably BUT- the outer two don't line up very well especially the #1 exhaust port & runner is like 7/16" off of center, and #4 is about 1/4" from being centered with the flange. They said that it is very hard to bend in the stainless steel piping and there might be a chance that they may ruin my manifold and not be able to do it. Is this true? , has anyone done this and had this much trouble? I sold my old manifold and my car hasn't been running for the last 3 months and this is the only part holding me back right now. The manifold that I have is the SSAUTOCHROME for the b16/b18 with the 38mm external wastegate flange and the flange is the JGS Tools for the 7AFE. anyone who has done this please help! he did that to all 4 pipes nik, but
hrmm i wouldn't imagine the pipes being that hard to manuever, IMO you might just want to grab another flange from jgs and have it drilled RIGHT ....good luck dan |

QUOTE playr158 Posted Yesterday, 11:52 PM he did that to all 4 pipes nik, but hrmm i wouldn't imagine the pipes being that hard to manuever, IMO you might just want to grab another flange from jgs and have it drilled RIGHT ....good luck dan the holes that were drilled were right the made the inner two line up and the #4 is 1/4" off or less and the #1 cylinder is about 7/16" off and I can't get it any closer to the edge of the flange. The probem was that the shop said that they might not be able to move the #1 pipe without ruining the manifold QUOTE zipstrips Posted Yesterday, 04:58 PM how much did the shop want to do it?? They wanted at least $100 but probably closer to $200 IF it could be done, AND it wouldn't be done till the end of next week if not early the next week And that was all only on an IF it could be done. -------------------- If anyone is missing NASCAR and it's not on Speed Channel, take a fistful of Skittles, throw them in the toilet and hit the flush handle. I would like to see some close ups of what was cut and welded if you have some- I would really appreciate it.
I'm probably going to a machining place that build oil field parts, and the guy at the dyno shop here said that he talked to the owner(who drag races locally) and he said he would like to give it a try. So all the info I could give him the better, and thanks everyone for your help with this -------------------- If anyone is missing NASCAR and it's not on Speed Channel, take a fistful of Skittles, throw them in the toilet and hit the flush handle. hey guys,
I haven't posted here in a while.I still have not finished my manifold all of the people I know of and have talked to around here either want like $800-900, to make me a manifolds or just don't want to try it at all, And the other shop that I sent it so (along with other parts) didn't touch it and had it for over a year-and also never gave back alot of my parts. so ever since I sold my JGS log manifold I have just had the car parked for about 2 years now. My camaro that was going to be my toy just spun a rod bearing and even though I am on a very small budget I am going to start on my toyota again rather than the camaro. I am really needing to get some pictures close up on where the manifold was cut and welded I know someone that I think can do it. And also did it have to be TIG welded or can I get away with a MIG? I have access to a MIG if I can use that. Thanks in advance for all the help guys -Daniel -------------------- If anyone is missing NASCAR and it's not on Speed Channel, take a fistful of Skittles, throw them in the toilet and hit the flush handle. It can be Mig welded since its SS.
you cut the B16 manifold as close to the flange as you can really.. then line it up with the 7afe flange and tack weld the runners into place... insure they are correctly lined up and then go 1 runner at a time to final weld |

but do I bend and tack them, because I heard that this puts alot of undue stress on the welds of an already weak manifold.
or heat, and bend, then tack which I was told also weakens the metal. If either of these is not as big of a problem as they were made out to seem to me then I am willing to do them, I just want to have a car theat is running again and will be dependable. or do I have to cut and re-weld each individual runner, and if so how far away from the flange. And, do I have to add any piping or metal??? I have already cut off the old flange with a fine tooth hack-saw to get as closely as possible since the blade is alot thinner. my concern now is the places that I think would be the best to cut and reweld I can't fit the stick and wand of the welder to get a complete weld all the way around. -------------------- If anyone is missing NASCAR and it's not on Speed Channel, take a fistful of Skittles, throw them in the toilet and hit the flush handle. here are some picture of what I have right now.
and also how thick is the oil filter relocation sandwich?, and where did you get yours at, I am also going to need the nipple that it threads onto because the shop that was doing all the work said they needed it to find the right relocation kit and they never gave it back, if anyone knows where I can get that also. thanks -Daniel http://s178.photobucket.com/albums/w278/celiracer94/ -------------------- If anyone is missing NASCAR and it's not on Speed Channel, take a fistful of Skittles, throw them in the toilet and hit the flush handle. QUOTE Yesterday, 11:01 AM 2003cbgts hey, anyone know what kind of air intake that is in the second picture? it is actually the cold side for the intercooler piping and I beleive it is custom made out of mandrel bends with some silicone couplers. Also, is there anyone with any more photos, of have a link to some more close up shots -Daniel -------------------- If anyone is missing NASCAR and it's not on Speed Channel, take a fistful of Skittles, throw them in the toilet and hit the flush handle.
