So quick question guys, I'm looking at getting new speakers and a new head unit for my car and I was just wondering:

1 Are the front speakers on the door the same size/type/whatever as the ones in the back?
2 If I just get a good head unit (nothing special) and 4 new speakers along with new tweeters, will I need to do something about more power for them? How do I tell what I need to look for to make sure nothing gets overloaded?
3 If I get a double-din head unit like a screen, is that going to draw more power and cause issues if I don't somehow upgrade my power?

Thanks guys. I need all the help I can get, I know nothing about stereos.

In my GT both the front and back were 6.5 inch speakers. You dont NEED an amp to power your speakers that are going in the door. However, it will sound better if you do get one for them. As far as I know the Double Din will not take anymore power but Im not 100% sure. In any case if you want to be safe you could always get a better battery (something like an Optima Red/Yellow Top)

1. i believe the main speakers are 6.5's but you can fit 8's in.
2. as for more power that depends on what speakers you get
3. it shouldnt, check the info for power requirements

-I think Double Dins do not draw anymore power than a single din, same with video and non-video decks. They cant if you think about it, most are 11-16volts, if it tries to exceed that youll blow a fuse? I dont know check the power usuage on the back of the box or on the specs.

-The speakers in the front are technically 6.5" but they are in a 8" housing so you will either have to find 8" speakers (good luck) or but an adaptor that will allow you to fit a 6.5" speaker into an 8" hole. To find an adaptor just search google or eBay for 94-99 celica speaker adaptor(s).

-As far as overloading, i dont think you will have a problem with just aftermarket speakers hooked up to a head unit, i have a really nice expensive alpine deck and it only puts out 18w rms, most decent aftermarket speakers are at least over 100w peak.

Good info guys, thanks a lot. I'll be lucky if I can find an Optima battery over here (UK) but I wanted to get one before I left Maryland. Won't an amp use more power? Does anybody have a setup w/out a sub but with an amp?

there isn't a point in having a sub without an amp because the sub won't hit hard, it would just sound like a normal speaker.

Well no I'm saying have an amp for my speakers, but I wouldn't have a sub yet. I'd probably get one later on down the line. I was just trying to figure out a nice inexpensive setup that sounds great.

trust me get a sub and amp before anythign, subs add the best sound IMO. Sometimes when my cars not on i turn off my amp and subs to save my battery and the sound is soooo much different, just imo get a sub and amp for it first!

I see what you're saying but I don't really want to do that yet, as I want te eventually get a really nice sub(s). That, and I don't know what I'm going to do about a box or having it molded and whatnot so I'm just going to wait and replace what I can first like speakers and the head unit.

yea thats a good route to go i guess, my subs and amp sat in my room for at least 2 months while i debated how to mount them and save up the cash for a custom box and trunk floor, then there was the actual building of the box and stuff. It took alot of thinking and planning, i like the results tho, look around the site for a while youll get alot of good ideas!
