pluged up my HKS SSQ today ..... so anxious to hear some noise ..... but then realized that @ 0 vaccum ... where boost begins to build ... it stays @ 0 vac. but then u hear it go through the BOV. Can anyone give me some advice as which line to use for the BOV , on a 2nd Gen 3SGTE.

Pics???? Use any vaccum hose that is under boost pressure after the throttle body.

tee into the line the goes to your map sensor. passengers side of the intake manifold.

I thought that was a bad place to tee into. You want the shortest and most simple line to the map sensor so It doesnt throw the ecm off. right?

I wouldnt recommend the map sensor. The line in the picture below works very well. Just need to buy a reducer. The hose is a little bit bigger than the HKS supplied hose.

Sorry for the bad pic.

whats wrong with using the map sensor line?

with an AFM nothing. all that is for is for boost cut and the stock boost gauge we don't have.
oh and getting what altitude your at when u start up. but on a speed density system the map should be close with short lines so it has a more responsive route to make critical fuel calculations. the more accurate the sensor, the better. less space to fill before the map starts to read pressure. something like that. i really just remember it from mr2oc.

I'm more comfortable running off the intake manifold. That port on the side works very well for a vac source.

Sorry John, I wish I had my car a few steps away. laugh.gif

there is also a free port on the back of the manifold thats normally capped off. i think it a 6m or 8m hose connection. you can use that with a vac line reducer. i think thats where i have mine at the moment.

Correct me if Im wrong, but say....you tee into the boost pressure sensor line and one of the hoses blow off. Wouldnt the fuel cut be eliminated. Thus unlimited boost. I know its rare circumstances. But I just dont want to take any chances. Plus it always seems that toyota does things for a reason and I dont realize why until its too late. (like not teeing anything into this line) Learning the hard way. biggrin.gif Maybe Im just paranoid.

the tvsv is what limits the boost, not the fuel cut/map sensor. if somehow ur car is overboosting and then the line is blown off, then maybe there will be a problem.

no. not at all. your waste gate and boost controller are what controls your boost. the map sensor (on the 2nd gen) is just there as a backup to cut fuel. if you disconnect it, your boost level wont change. in fact a lot of people disconnect the map sensor vac line or install an fcd to run more then the 12psi allowed by the map. using a tee on that line wont do any harm.

Ive seen 14 psi on my celica then hit fuel cut. Since mine is a JDM ecm is this normal? Or is my boost gauge inaccurate?

ur probably running later year 2 board ecus. i think they had higher fuel cut. i know i was disappointed when i found out my cut was at 12 kindasad.gif since the engine importer gave me the wrong year ecu (engines a 93, ecus a 90-91 single board)

its very simple to change or eliminate fuel cut if you want to run more boost.

toyotacrazy, i would blame the boost gauge.

yah thats the spot i got my hks ssqv and my boost gauge connected to also. do u guys also T ur boost gauge and BOV together or do u run 'em on seperate lines? im thinking of moving my bov line to the back of the manifold since it doesnt seem responsive enough T'd of with the boost gauge.
