I didn't want to jack dustin's thread so...My GF and myself were thinking of saving up a bit to put a down payment on something newer. So far, these are the choices...
I know they all aren't in the same price range, but I/we are willing to spend a bit more for something a little more luxurious/classy (TL/G35). Looking for something between $25-30k CAD. Car prices up here are a bit more expensive than they are stateside, but if you guys can suggest anything else that fits in the price range, please post it up and WHY. Just to compare, a few local guys imported a couple brand new 06-07 sti's last year from the states, and they ended up being close to $5-6k CAD chepaer landed (after import taxes/duty/gst/excise/whatnot). Let me know! Thanks! |

out of your selection.
I would pick the wrx, because its the only 4 door and a performance platform. All the other ones are either front wheel drive, or two doors. |

I vote for WRX (RECOMMEND STi)
![]() They are just awesome cars! Now I know my dad researched the TR? which was one step down from the STi.. still fast but i still recommend the STi ![]() This post has been edited by Jaws4God: Apr 26, 2007 - 9:27 AM -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

The TR is not a step down from the STI. Its "tuner-ready." Its the same as the other WRXs except for a few things like exhaust and radio. Its $1,000 less than the standard WRX.

The Civic Si is over rated. Only buy it if you're a die-hard Honda lover.
G35 is just a cheap, lower quality 350z, don't bother. 350z. An option, but I drove one the other day and wasn't that impressed. No space, so its just a fun car, but too heavy to really be amazing IMO. If you want something fun, go with a WRX. Sadly, they're mainly driven by rich teenagers, so you certainly won't get that classy look. TL has great handling and speaks of class, but isn't really a good sports car IMO. My votes so for the TSX. You get the class of a high quality Acura, but still with enough pep and bragging rights to be a very fun car to drive. If you want something like a TSX, but a little less class, and a bit more tuner/peppy/racing elements consider a RSX-S Lastly, don't forgot about an RX-8...all round amazing car... You could also look into an Audi TT or a Mini Cooper... This post has been edited by tin_foil: Apr 26, 2007 - 12:56 PM -------------------- ![]() |

You vote for the TSX but not for the Civic SI!? They're basically the same thing also... except the TSX has a bored/stroked version of the K20 and has 4 doors... Audi TT = VW GTi. Mini Cooper = no power no size no space. I dunno... but the RX-8 in stock form is probably the most overrated compact sports car. Runs the 1/4 mile in low 15's to mid/high 14's!? What about Lexus IS250-350? I would def get that over any of the above. Classy, quick and safe [thinking AWD 250]. Plus you still get Toyota quality.

Would it be better to marry her first before we ever buy anything? Do couples not move in together and get a place together without being married? I don't think us breaking up is a big concern, and if anything did happen, just sell the car, and split the cash... As for 2dr or 4dr it is not a big deal. I do not want to narrow down my choices like that, based on chassis platform (coupe/sedan/hatch etc). It would be "somewhat" nicer to have a 4dr because of the size/rear passenger space, but I do not care much for the sedan look, although I do think both the TL and TSX are very sharp cars, for sedans. I would rather not narrow it down based purely on performance either. This is why I would like to know why you pick a car, don't just say "G35 FTW!". Why G35 over a 350? Isn't Infinity the "luxry" label of Nissan (much like Acura is Honda's label) where each manufacturer has similar cars built on similar chassis but with subtle differences...I would say the G35 is a "classy" version of a 350. Slightly less performance oriented, and more luxry oriented, but still very similar. I also like the look of the 35c's led taillights over the "racerback" look of the 350. Scoob's are nice cars as well, but the bug-eye look of the >'06 doesn't really appeal to me cosmetically wise. What does appeal to me is the AWD, OEM turbo, and general performance oriented platform. No 6th gear though. ![]() I don't really care for Mazda too much, but if I had to pick something from them, I would rather look into a Mazdaspeed 6 over an RX-8. After owning an FC I'm not to fond of the rotary engine anymore. I do like the suicide rear doors on the 8's though. Will look into IS series. In my opinion, i'd opt for the TSX. If your girlfriend can sacrifice driving an automatic, and you can sacrifice a swoopier 2 door body, you both could have a very hi-tech, fuel efficient, hi-revving sporty sedan that is reliable, stylish, roomy, and will have good resale value. If I could afford a TSX as my next car, I'd prolly fall for one, all things considered...

Unless you plan on getting married, like.. seriously. It wouldn't be a good idea. And this is from experience.. see my signature.
![]() But I voted for the G35. Beautiful-ness. -------------------- |

I don't think a non automatic would be a problem, as both of us enjoy driving manual over auto anyways, so no sacrafice there...
I'm not sure how exactly the TSX falls into fuel efficient (City 21-22 mpg...) but it would definately be everything else you mentioned. Like I've previously stated, I'm not overly worried with the "buying a car with the GF" fact. All things conisdered, I think we've already been through alot together. We live together, "share" money (the money is all coming from the same pocket concept...) and the fact that we've already bought 3 or so cars together helps to put my mind at ease. I say wrx '04+ because they're good in almost every category. They look awesome, they're fast, they're practical. Plus they don't have the bug eye headlights anymore. My bosses son has an 06 sti, and it's awesome. awd and oem turbo are a huge factor in my choice. maybe i'm biased. just...don't buy an 07 si. like tin foil said, only buy that if you're a die-hard honda lover. and i know a guy that is a diehard honda lover and he's not terribly impressed with his 06 si after one year. that's my 2 cents
