Im going to use : Cascade Audio VBlok VB-1X as a base coat for my sound deadening. Im going to spray it on the floors and inner walls of the whole car. What do you guys think of this product. It seems like the price is right and it has good reviews.
Over the top of that i am thinking dynomat or just some accoustic foam. Then finally the fiberglass panels i will make wrapped in vinyl. Suggestions: |

good stuff, id stay away from the sprays n all that good stuff, heard stories about cars smelling and panels getting pushed out, sounds a lil too messy for me. good luck and im sure it will turn out nice! you sound like you are motivated to get this done -------------------- you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!

I just srayed like 4 cans of 3m rubberized coating in there. Any comparisons on that rubberized coating to the Vblok stuff. Should i go ahead a spray Vblok over that. I dont think it can hurt to haev to much soundblocking.

Ijust ordered 6 cans of "do it best triple expanding foam sealant". i am going to use this stuff in the hard to reach areas. Especially behind the rear speakers on the sides. if you have taken them out before you know what im talking about. you get alot of road noise in from there right in front of the wheel wells. i hope it comes in soon i ordered it from amazon.com.
has anyone ever used this stuff or something like it. Ive heared about it but i have never messed with it before. Tips would be nice. Any other places you think i might use it? |

test it first to see how much it expands. Use with caution as it will easily pop your panels out if you spray too much.

Use with caution as it will easily pop your panels out if you spray too much. r we talking about plastic panels? because they are already out and not going back in. I am going to use this foam to shape the whole interior and then fiberglass over it. Well i think thats what i am going to do. Just shooting from the hip as i go... |

Well i just used some of that triple expandable foam, if you have never used it before what a freaking mess. But it works really great, i see i will be spending plenty of money on it. 3 cans already did not fill up the one side i was hoping. im going to have to tape it all off to hold it in then fill from the top. But it seems to work great.

i found some how to's online a while back, what they do is make a structure out of wood, like the base and the speaker mount etc. and then drape fleece over the whole shape and staple it down to make the desired form. then resin and glass over the fleece etc.
lemme see if i can find those old links edit: http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_...=74519&PN=1 http://www.explorerforum.com/fiberglass/fiberglassing.htm hope that helps This post has been edited by jcbass7: Nov 27, 2007 - 1:32 PM |

I started up the project again. Got a whole bunch of acustic foam. The whole car is now laid with acustic foam sheets. Glued to the car. Once that settles im gonna fiberglass it stright to the car not make panels. The only panel i have to make is the rear trunk due to the bolts for the tail lights and trunk lock.
ill post pics soon. |

From a sound fan's point of view I wouldn't advise using 2 separate boxes for the subs. Generally speaking each box would have its own pressure inside of it instead of sharing the 2 so now each speaker is firing independently. The problem with that is that the sound waves from the 2 subs hitting at the same time will cause wave collisions and create dead spots where the opposing waves hit eachother. Same principle as a timpani head (if anyone has ever played timpani) hitting on 2 opposite sides of the head at the same time will create a dead sound instead of a clean resonant sound. My suggestion is build something that houses both subs in the same box and whatever you do don't aim the subs at eachother.

Trust me on the separate boxes thing. It'll sound much better if you have 2 subs in the same box.
