Ok someone told me that these are the best subs there are and they put out the best sound and boom.HE said that i only need one,if i were to get two and turn it up loud it would break the back window cause i have a coupe, the the box with the sub or subs wou be housed in the trunk. Is one enough or should i go with 2?Also wat kinda amp would best power these?

usually for a hatch, one 12" is enough. the trick is to build a box to the smallest volumetric capacity and let the cabin of the car become the actual 'speakerbox.' My old setup in my 91 gt was one 12" alpine type-r and a 300 watt MTX mono amp to push it.
That setup was tuned so well that when the heavy bass tones really hit, you could barely feel yourself breathe... I'm not telling you that you should go with this setup, its just my 2psi. -------------------- ~bloodMoney

Don't get audiobahn, they are crap...
Choose a sub like jl audio w6's, alpine type r's, or kicker l5 or l7's... if you just want a single sub. And as far as your back window breaking, your friend has no idea what he is talking about, I have four JL Audio 10w6v2's with a jl audio 1000/1 pushing them, my hatch window is fine. |

I liked my AVI SLS-300 the most out of anything I owned or heard. I knew a lot of SQ comp vehicles that ran these subs, but they are hard to come by. Hand made in Richmond BC and the price reflects that. I prefer quality over volume and if you want to just be loud on the road, then get something cheap.

*puts flame suit on*
From my observations, there's no such thing as a "magic bullet" speaker. And, unless you're entering into competition where looks & brand name matter... a well built / placed box is more important than the speaker in the "reasonable" price range. Kicker, MTX, RF and other reasonably priced brands will sound just fine in a well built box, good wiring, and a mid-grade amp. I ran 3 JL Audio W6 8" speakers (the box was built so the 2 speakers on the side were individually sealed and on 1 amp, and the middle box was ported with it's own amp) in my Civic for a good while. They sounded GREAT and no one believed they were just 8" speakers until I'd pop the trunk. But, I spent an insane amount of $$$ and in retrospect.... I probably would have been just as happy with a system costing MUCH less. I probably could have got a similar sound with a single 12" sealed box. |

1000w going to 2 jl 12w7 in a coupe, your back window will be fine, they mis-aim my side mirrors for christ sake, and sound sooooooooooo good when your not trying to go deaf and just listening to music, btw i dont listen to much rap either unless im craving ALOT of bass. as he said above its all in how you tune your system. you can throw lots of money into getting huge speakers and over powered subs and on n on but why put all that in a noisey car???? on the highway all that money doesnt really do you any good unless you have it tuned nicely to use your car's shape n size etc to your advantage. sure better speakers will do alot of good, but its like a turbo setup, imagine how much better it would be if it were tuned

QUOTE(trdproven @ May 14, 2007 - 5:41 PM) I have been a JL customer for years. Power efficient sub. x2 - just listen to a 12" JL... they sound NICE. Keep in mind JL has several different types now, and their W6v2 and W7 are the best hitting. With car audio - it's all personal prefrence. The most important thing is to go listen to the speaker you want. Go to competitions, car shows, import meets, and car audio stores. You'll find the speaker / amp / price / box combo you like only by getting out there and listening. |

Start cheap, then move up if you don't know what you want. You will appreciate the good stuff and the money you spent on it that much more.
Window breaking? Maybe if the guy had a crack in it. I got my rear hatch flexing about an inch in my old car pushing 145 db with 2 15's and 2400 watts and I couldn't break it. -------------------- |

I have two memphis 12's and a kicker 1200.1 amp, my WHOLE rear end has about 1-2 inch movement (rear window is alot more) and it hasnt broke yet. I have seen better hitting systems that havent broke windows. You need alot to break a window.
But ne way, like everyone says start small and figure out what you want, instead of spending a ton of money into something your gonna change later! -------------------- |

Audiobahn for those of you who havn't experienced them is deffinitly the way to go,,, i have the comp. audiobahn with 2200 watts pushing it in a ported box and its louder than anything i'v ever heard. especialy for a hatch.
for a single sub set up, audiobahn is deff. one of the best. |
