Well, it took 3 fuses for me to figure out it's not my fault (directly, at least).

I decided to take out the mp3 deck and replace it with the stock toyota celica 2 din cd/stereo/cassette deck. New harness, etc etc.

But when I turn on the stereo, the courtesy door lights/map light/clock goes off.
This turns out to be the 10A mini fuse being blown.

At first, I thought it was being blown when I was moving wires and harnesses around, but after this 3rd time, I'm pretty sure the fuse goes right when I turn on the stereo.

Any ideas? I'm sorta clueless about this type of electrical stuff.

SOunds like a wire is loose somewhere in your connections.... Usally this happends if another wire is touching another wire, or possibly a wire is lose and touching a metal panel grounding itself out. Triple check all your wires. If you are pluging back in the stock deck then there should be no wiring harness's involved should be plug and play ...let me know.

How do I fix a bad ground?

On the back of the deck, there's:

- a rectangular plug for the harness coming from the amp under the climate controls
- a larger round plug in the corner (I'm assuming for the power?)
- a smaller round plug beside that (for the antenna)

What do I need to do? I have 4 10A fuses left and I'll like to solve it before I have to buy new ones. haha..

That 10A fuse sure screws a lot of stuff up. Besides the door lights, dome light, and clock, it took out the control for the low beams. So when I flip the headlights, it automatically triggers the highs. :|

I might've found the reason.

The previous owner put in a mp3 deck. However, the install was different than a normal one (and quite stupid). He tapped off the connector to the 2nd amp, bypassing it completely. So that splice to the deck was just to the single amp.

Now, when I've put the stock one back in, I've hooked both amps up as they should be. However, a bit of reading online suggests that the fuse values you use should depend on the amperes the devices are drawing (and thus the number of amps will change the fuse needed).

I'm hoping the previous owner goofed and replaced a fuse with a lower rating somewhere...

Can a get a HUGE favor from anyone here who currently runs the stock deck on the 2 amps.

I would love a decent pic of the fusebox and what fuses were used on the driver's side under the hood.
