That looks sweet! I don't think I've seen a cold air intake like that on a GT before. Nice Work!

Hyper, is that just flexable exhaust piping on the end of your injen tube, or something?? Or some kinda Home Depot type stuff? I might make one if i can find the guts to rip apart my filter and throw something like that in there. Also, have you guys noticed much of a difference since you put them in??

Yup flexable exhaust piping, held together with this radiation resistant tape that they use for ducts. (better than duct tape). Got it at my local parts store, for like $20. The only difference I can tell is the sound. It does sound a bit deeper and louder. Beware though, the opening between the battery and the fusebox is very small. I actually took a heat gun to the fusebox, and melted the plastic to fit it around the pipe. Just a lot of brute force actually.

Sure. First off you have to take out the original air box. It's big, and you'll have to unscrew your fuse box and battery to get at it. Jack up the car, and take off the tire well splash guard. Then get some 2.5 in bendable exhaust pipe. I found mine at my local parts store, cost me like $20 for much more than I needed.
The hole where the original intake was is perfect for 2.5 in pipe and it fed right down into the tire well covered by the splash guard. So line it up, measure, and then cut the pipe. Leave enough room to fit your filter on, and more room so that if your car vibrates it won't vibrate against the shield. Attach the pipe to your old intake (or just to your throttle body I suppose) and make sure it's the right size. You can see I used a pipe clamp and some duct tape to attach it to my injen. Just go to your hardware store and ask for the best duct tape they have. Route the pipe down it down there and make sure it fits with your filter. Don't connect anything yet. This is the hard part: the fuse box won't go back into position with the pipe there. The pipe goes under the fuse box. So I took a heat gun, and melted the plastic of the fuse box and forced it into place. It was hard, and took two people and a lot of strength. You might think of a better way, just improvise. If you got a smaller battery, or reloacted your batter to the trunk, then you'd have more room to work with, and could probably just set the fuse box up in a different position. Once you actually have the fuse box in, and your pipe down there. Tape the pipe to your old intake. And attach your filter really really tightly to the end of your intake. If you have a heatshield, I set mine up as a splash guard from the front of the car. Without fog lights, you can see your intake if you look closely. I actually took my fog lights off to get better air flow. Put everything back on, including the batter. Don't forget to attach the o2 sensors to your intake, and then start er up. Gains? Well not much. Sound? A little bit louder. But it's something fun to do, and hey, you just made your own custom intake. If you got some questions just PM me, IM me, or E-mail me. |

Oh yea, if you attach your pipe to the throttle body, your going to need to drill holes for the 02 sensor.

yea i did the exact same thing as hyper a few months ago. heres my setup:
Injen short ram intake connected to flexible exhaust piping (2.5" like the injen intake) i used 2 pieces of piping to get the filter right behind the front bumper. i used those black rubber gaskets that you would see in your plumbing to connect the pieces of piping. works really well. only thing hard about it was the piping ended up being too long by like an inch so i couldnt get the filter on. oh well just cut off the extra inch and ended up slicin my hand up pretty good, but it fit alrite. And my hand healed! lol and yea the fuse box will be in the way. never thought about meltin the plastic like that, my fuse box just isnt screwed in all the way, but with the pressure from the pipe and the screw the box stays in place. you definitely have to force everything into place but you shouldnt break anything doing this. of course you have to unscrew the plastic underbody and the drivers side front splash guard to get all of the stock airbox out. cuz if your doin a CAI, you cant have any of your stock airbox in there, it'll just get in the way. good luck on this simple mod! |

The filter goes on the very end of the whole setup. It hides behind the splashguard near the front tire well. There's plenty of room for a big filter to go on there. I'll take a picture tomarrow.

Also, how does rain and water affect the intake. Having the filter behind the splash guard, would'nt there be a possibility of water entering the engine.
