Yes.
It is what the shims sit on.
They are bucket lifters, and look like their name.

They probably are what is ticking, Toyota engines are notorious for this.
You can check the clearance, but normally they don't go out of spec, even on high mileage engines.

Very common with Toyota's Buckets/shims. You should hear my 20V... tick tick tick. Injectors also tick a fair bit...

my injectors tick louder than my valve train. is a crisp ticking or a muffled ticking? more of tock than a tick.

tick is injectors, tock is valve train noise. you can use a screw driver like a stethoscope to listen to the topend and the injectors to figure where exactly the noise is coming from you know.

Well, ask them how ticking lifters will cause you to throw a rod or spin a bearing......
And post up the answers.
They should be interesting.......

Assuming it is your lifters, nothing. smile.gif
Like I [and Kwanza] told you, it's part of owning a Toyota. You just have to deal with it.

The clearence adjustment should help if it is out, if it hasn't
been apart it shouldn't be out of adjustment. Is it something that just started?

Dunno man
It's REALLY hard to conclusively diagnose noises online....

You can always check the clearance, but it's normally not out.

Check your shim cleareances... buy new shims/buckets... then *HOPE* it helps. A lot of the times... it doesn't help that much.
