well i just thought i'd share my current feelings with you guys.
i just finished my freshman year in college. i attend UOP, University of the Pacific, which is located in Stockton, CA. its not a bad school. its a private college. very old and small. it has less students then my highschool... about 4,000 undergrads, my highschool had about 4,400 students. my major is mechanical engineering. my dilemma started during senior year in HS, when i was deciding what college to attend. i really wanted to go to UC Irvine, but it was too far away (about 6 hours) from me. i know people go to colleges far away, but i didnt want to be so far away incase anything happened at home. uop was only an hour away so i decide to go there. plus it wasnt so bad for my major anyways. now that a year has passed, im starting to really regret not going to irvine. a private college is just so different. i dont beleive its for me. although im sure i can continue through for the next 4 years, i dont wanna go through my life regretting not going to the college i actually wanted to. my mind is just so torn apart right now. i dont know if i should transfer to irvine or just keep going... |

your just experiencing the freshman blues.
The sudden change in enviroment and friends is creating extra stress that alot of student can't handle. Just think to yourself: what advantages do you get for going to Irvine? Have you actually went to irvine and looked around, see what it feels like to actually live there. Remember, college is not just the school, you are actually moving and calling that place your residence for the next 4 years. If you are un-happy with the current school your going to, you should transfer as soon as you can. The longer you stay at UOP the more credits that will fail to transfer. And distance should never be a problem for you. I mean to fly from LA to SF airport is only a couple hour trip. So in the worst case senario you can fly home and take a cab. But once you been to college for a while, you will realize your less and less needed at home. One day you will eventually notice you can pick-up your things and move out to live on your own without your parents. |

thanks for the feedback guys!
slickrick, i dont think crime will ever be a problem where i go. just take a look here. http://www.areaconnect.com/crime/compare.h...rvine&s2=CA side by side comparison of irvine and stockton. and what do you mean by face paced? hanyo, i just feel terrible right now becuase the main reason i really didnt go to UCI is becuase of the distance thing. and you are right, in the beginning of the year i pretty much went home about 3 times a month. now i go home probably once a month at the most. im fine with not visiting home. i dont get home sick like others. i was just worried about the distance thing incase of an emergency, but now i dont need to worry about that anymore. i've just been so stressed over my situation lately. cuz you know, this is a big decision, not something i can decide in a day or two. whatever i decide to do, it will basically change my life. its good to get unbiased feedback though. all my friends at uop have obviosly been trying to convince me to stay. |

Nice area really nice cars. My close friend and his roomate had there Evo and the BMW M3 stolen in the same year from the same house. they try 2 keep that under wraps. and there is just a lotta hustle and bustle in and around irvine, i dont know how sockton is (i lived in medesto when i was young) but it can be kinda overwhelming if your not used to it. but if ur a mover and a shaker u will fit in and love it. -------------------- Your signature is not allowed on 6GC - Defgeph

once you get accepted into a college, your into a whole new ball park, and away from the highschool crowd.
Its best to talk to your college acedemic counciler. |
