I've done a few searches on the forums and am not satisfied with the results. What are the main differences between the c52 and the c56 transmissions?

I know that they are interchangeable and was told by a few shops that they would be the same price. I am purchasing a newly rebuilt tranny because after having mine rebuilt last year by a local shop i have encountered more problems yet again with my transmission and find that it would be more cost effective to replace the whole unit.

Just know that the C versions for the ZZ series motors and have a different bellhousing. Toyota is also still using the C50 series in the Yaris. I'm pretty sure many of those have different bellhousings depending on which engine the trans came on. That said... C56's aren't exactly common... and it's not very wise to throw on a C56 with that short of gearing on the 7AFE. It'll just push you constantly out of the torque band. Not only are the gears different... but the final drives are different also.

Would you happen to know what the final drive of the c56 is? i'm pretty sure that the c52's is 3.72. If it is a little bit shorter that couldn't be too much of a problem.
