anything that is rough will work.

go to a river and pick up some of those rock and start grinding away at the curb rashes. And then finish up with the sandpaper mentioned in the how-to.

But on a serious note, the importance of using the exact files are not that essential. Having the correct ones will make the job go quicker. But the results will be the same whether or not you have 2 dollar filers vs 100 dollar filers.

You basically need a real aggressive file if you have DEEEP gouges in the rim. But if its only a minor scratch, you can skip the fileing all together and go directly to the sand paper. No two curb rashes are the same. Therefore it would be pointless to point out the part numbers for every individual file used.

But i do recomend using a file that is designed to work on metal. Using a filer designed for wood on the rim would be a bad idea.

yep, get metal files. you should have at least a flat bastard (yes, that's what it's called) and a flat 2nd cut. those two should handle most of the gouges that are safe to address.

i highly recommend using a flap wheel in a drill for the bulk of the sanding. you can find them with the rest of the abrasives at your local hardware store, they're available in several sizes and styles and are pretty reasonably priced...considering how much faster and easier they make sanding complex shapes (like aluminum wheels).

looks like this:

lets you do this:

the flat bastard file, about 10" x 1"

hope that helps some.

Just wondering......lets say I wanna just go for the straight polished look....I would proably need to clear coat the bare metal, right? Also, what would I do for the plastic center caps?
