I posted on here before about trying to get linix up and working on my computer and I gave up on that one and so now im just running windows xp. I tried burning a mp3 disk today and it would act like it was burning but it want really I dont think since the drive wasnt making it's usaul loud spinning noises so I just figured after trying another program to make sure it wasnt itunes messin up, I figured it was a problem with the drive. So I uninstalled it under device manager asumming the drivers was ready and waiting on my recovery disk that says DRIVERS AND UTILITES. Nope there was some there but none for any cd drives. No problem I'll get on dells site and get the drivers there. All they seem to offer is a stupid dianostic thing thats says its wont work with my drive. So now im clueless what to do someone please help i know im just overlooking something simple...

Pretty much all CD drives use a generic driver provided by the operating system. If the drive shows up in device manager, but doesn't work properly, you may have a hardware issue. Does the drive read discs properly?

whenever a cdr/w gives me grief i slow it down to 8x and it usually burns ok.
it could also be a bad batch of blank CD's you bought... i've seen it happen once. if you have a good brand of media then yes it could be a drive problem. fortunatly a new cdr is like $30 on neweg.com -------------------- 94 Celica ST - CAI, CarPuter, many interior mods!

try some other program, like nero, also try the batch of cd's on another machine, but u may have a problem with the burner itself, if u plan to get a replacement get a dvdrw drive, it's fairly cheap here in Aus, not sure about over where u are
