It only does this when cruising at 2200 to 2500 rpm's in every gear. It's like a little jerk from the engine. I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor and it din't solve the problem. I was thinking about trying the o2 sensor but at a $180.00 i dont want to replace it if it is fine. Any ideas would be alot of help. Thanks guys and gals.

Try replacing the fuel filter & run some high octane gas through it with an off the self fuel injection cleaner. Mechanics also have a pressurised EFI cleaning system as well maybe do that.

If it still persists then it sounds like your electronic ingnition has had it...

when you buy the o2 sensor for $180, most of that cost is because your looking at an o2 sensor with a harness to fit your car. you can buy one from autozone for like $30 that dosent have the wiring harness.

then all you have to do is cut your factory harness and wire it to your new o2 sensor. you only have to connect one wire and it could save you $150. most people will hesitate to do this, but it worked just fine for me.

also, if you hear a slight hissing noise from behind your intake manifold, that could be a leaky vacuume hose, which could cause hesitation.

hi m8 i had the same probs, i just went down to the car 10 mins ago and started prodding about i had the car running and started pulling little breather hoses out where ever i could, i few times the car stalled, just restared it and carryed on the last thing i checked was my ht leads and found that 3 were not on fully so i pushed them down as much as they would go , when i started up the car a noticed that the little miss i had at tick over had gone so i took it out for a spin and what do u know the flat spot as disapearded , planked the foot down at 2200rpm and the motor pulls now instead off thinking about it till it got to 3000rpm lol

Its the uk gt i have with the 3s-ge engine . seems to be alot off peolpe complaining about this prob on all celica forums but iv yet to find someone with a cure , i was told by at toyota mechanice that the throttle body gasket can go and thats usualy the prob but he also sayed that i could only put platinium plugs in my car or i would burn the pistons out which was alot off bull , why cant dealers just tell us the truth??.
Who knows eh just one off those anoying things a guess lol.

I had a problem with hesitation at constant speeds a few months back. The first time it happened the engine light flashed at me then went out. I did an error code check and it was the Throttle Position Sensor. I replaced the TPS and haven't had any more problems. You can do error codes with a jumper box so that you don't have to pay a dealer $60 to plug it in and tell you what's wrong. I think the Haynes manual has instructions on how to do it.

Yea i replaced the o2 censor and the fuel filter and checked all my vacume lines. It seems to running alot better. It even pulls harder now in the higher rpm's. Thanks again for everybodys help.

All you need to do to check your engine code is... find the little box top driver side by firewall and jump across TE1 to E1 and then go turn your key on and count the engine light flashes!! smile.gif

Check the numbers on your ecu, there is a tech bulletin about this eg009-97 which applies to certain model 5S-FE 5 SPD cars. may be others affected, I had that type trouble on my 97GT, took several months but I finally got Toyota to replace the ecu and that fixed it.
Symptoms were: anytime I was going downhill or on the level, and trying to maintain a steady speed, basically off-idle/no load, it would start bucking about once every second, the bulletin talks about a re-programmed fuel cut-off to "enhance driveability" . the computer kept trying to assume you were slowing down and it was shutting off the fuel too early.

go to alldata.com , look under recalls and tech bulletins, see if any apply to your car, if there is a bulletin that looks interesting, try going thru the public library internet to get details- they usually have subscriptions to all these interesting sites, or most garages have all tech bulletins on cd now, get them or the dealer to print out the details, I went thru all that, new plugs, wires, filters etc, only to find Toyota already knew they screwed up and didnt bother to recall it. replace it only if the customer complains loud enough. (I did)
