I wanna see what i keep loathing over; what i'm gettin into I don't really want to drive it much, if at all, until I get the oil leak fixed. plus, it's pretty loud and spews smoke everywhere and I don't want the cops called on me.. lol -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

I gotta ask, how much oil did you guys put in yours? I know stock capacity is 4.5 qts, but I figure the turbo plus the relocation kit would add some to the capacity, I didn't know how much so I put 5 in, but of course, I've leaked out probably like half a quart to a full quart (in the 15 minutes total that the car has ran since I put the turbo on). my downpipe is kinda in the way of me getting to my dip stick so I have no idea how much oil I need to put in.
also, since I have a 94, I can manually adjust the base timing. would it be a good idea for me to retard the timing by a degree or two? side note, I recieved my magnaflow muffler and catalytic converter today. hopefully, my mom will lend me some money so I can get the exhaust done, and I can get the canton racing adaptor with the stainless lines so I can fix the oil leak, then I'll feel a little safer about running the car and I can tune it without worrying about running out of oil. -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

btw, just placed an order for stainless hoses and hose ends, and I found a shop local that sells canton racing products so I sent them an e-mail asking if they had one in stock, so we'll see.

yeah, I need to cut some of the pipes. I did cut a couple. this was only meant to be a mock-up so we could see what needed cut, but since it was late at night, we were tired, and I just wanted to see it start I decided it was good enough for now. I'm gonna do a few finaly things tonight, so maybe I'll cut a few pipes. btw, I don't have any hump hoses, I think I remember Lagos saying one time that they weren't necessary. and there is some play at a couple of my couplers, so I think it'll be fine.
nobody answered my questions though, how much oil should I put in? should I retard my timing a degree or two? and one more, how did you guys mount your intercoolers? I read a thread on here and lagos posted an idea about using threaded rod, but he has the GT-four bumper support and he drilled through his. I don't know if my front bumper will even go back on. I wasn't able to find any bolts that were big enough for the threaded hole things on the top of my intercooler... anybody with any advice? -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

i put bout 4 1/2 qts of oil. i don't think you need to retard your timing. for me i didn't even use those thread rods. the IC pipings held the intercooler in place without any other support. and it's still holding up till this day

put in the normal amount of oil, start the car.
wait 15-20 seconds shut it off, then wait a few minutes and check it again. you should have 1 hump coupler on each side of your IC piping. no need to retard the timing. i ended up using a couple ubolts and welding a couple peices of flat bar welded to the radiator support, with the u bolts over the IC ends. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

QUOTE(CaliJeff @ Jul 3, 2007 - 1:42 PM) Not even the right size bolts at Monument ? they don't exactly have the greatest selection of bolts... unless they keep them behind the counter and I just didn't know they carried bolts.. lol. I checked lowes, osh, home depot, kragen, and monument and none had anything bigger than a 12mm bolt in metric.. I could maybe find a standard size that would fit, but idk. if the front bumper won't go back on cause of the thread rods, maybe I'll just let it hang like shin until I can think up something else. QUOTE(CaliJeff @ Jul 3, 2007 - 8:53 PM) I got a gas mig welder I seriously might have to take you up on that. well, I didn't do everything tonight that I wanted to. I installed my intake air temp sensor which I forgot to install before. and I figured out that my front bumper will not fit back on the way that the intercooler is now. I have to order one 90 degree bend coupler so I can mount my intercooler about an inch further back towards the radiator. ideally, I should also get 2 or 3 45 degree couplers too but I can make the straight ones work for now. also, the threaded rods hit the bumper foam. I started it up after I installed the intake air temp sensor to see if it would fix this one problem I'm having, but it didn't. basically, the car idles high, like around 1000-1100. and it's running way rich. like 10.0-10.2 (possibly richer, but my gauge only goes down to 10.0) and that's with me taking out 20% fuel. when I try to lean it out more (-30% to -50%)it reaches like 11.5 or so, but the car revs itself to like 1500, then it drops back down, (as it revs, it gets richer again too), then revs again, then drops back down. it only does this when I pull out more than like 25% fuel. anybody know what that's all about? detonation? -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

umm, so there is some kind of black sludge coming out of the intake inlet and intake outlet... what does that mean? blown seals on the turbo? the last thing I need right now is to need to spend more money on a different turbo... again... this project was already going to take until mid next week (at least) to be streetable, if I have to save more money for another turbo, it could take two more weeks on top of that. it really doesn't help that I'm about to lose my job next week, but I saw a help wanted sign at monument, a local car parts store, so I'm going tomorrow to see if I can talk to a manager about it. even if I made minimum wage and got a discount on parts it would be worth it because I spend so much money there lol.
anyway, I pulled the turbo, manifold, downpipe assembly back off tonight, hopefully over the next couple of days I'll be able to get all the parts I would need to fix all the oil leaks. I know it's leaking from the oil filter relocation kit, but I suspect it might also be leaking from the oil feed or drain line. I didn't install the feed line until after the turbo was on the car, which was a bad idea. it didn't get on very tight because of the limited space I had. for the drain line, the hose that came with my oil pan didn't really work cause of how much of a turn it had to make so there was a crimp in it. so I got a 90* bend of some kind of plumbing pipe thing, but it still had a crimp, so now I'm gonna order the oem toyota line that is already bent at a little over a 90* angle. the stainless lines are coming tomorrow. the 90* coupler should ship tomorrow and be here saturday or monday. the canton racing adaptor is out of stock and is expected mid next week, though they said that if I wanted it quicker they could get overnight shipping on it but it would cost me more. I don't think I will because it probably wouldn't arrive at their place until saturday but they are only open monday-friday so I wouldn't get it til monday anyway. so I just need to wait. -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |
