updates?

not really. the stainless lines for the oil filter relocation came in. I'm waiting on the canton racing adaptor to be in stock at this place called livermore performance. they said it'll be in wednesday or thursday. today the OEM rubber elbow between the oil drain line and oil pan shipped out and will be here tuesday. just a waiting game now. probably back together (hopefully) oil-leak free on thursday or friday. then I'll need to make an appointment for an exhaust. plus it needs tuned. then it'll be street-able and I'll drive it over so you can see it tongue.gif

yeah, the oil lines are being replaced with stainless braided lines and a canton racing adaptor. as for the nut, well, I bought a locking nut at a hardware store and it seems to be working so far... I really think I need a new turbo now though cause it's got some kind of sludge coming out of the intake inlet and outlet, do you know what that is? I guessed oil but it's kind of a sludge so maybe burnt oil?

I don't think they have an actual shop but work out of a residential garage or something. I justs did a yahoo search for canton racing or something and it was like the 3rd or 4th result. I thought it was pretty convinient to find a place 5 minutes from my house that stocks it. smile.gif

they said they are located on the south end of livermore near Valacitos road. I asked them for an address, PM me if you want it.

yea, im afraid your turbo is most likley on its way out. Same thing with mine, its burning oil like nothing. Everytime i boost, i get a sh*tload of smoke comming out of my exhaust. But idk if you should buy another turbo. becasue then you dont know what kind of condition its in. I'm just going to rebuild mine so i know when its done, its basically a new turbo and wont have to worry about it.

the turbo is shot. go buy a new one. you would NEVER want to put any kind of hardware store nylon lock nut on there. the turbo spins so fast and generates so much heat that this nut will just end up getting sucked into your motor the first time you take it for a drive.

there! now the intercooler is centered! the front bumper fits back on now too (yeah I took this picture before I fixed the piping on the driver side). the intercooler sags down like 5-6 inches when I let go of it though. it needs a bracket made. I was going to hopefully weld some bars of metal to the bottom of the radiator support that just go under the IC. but the IC hangs about 1/4" lower than the radiator support, so I guess the bars will just have to be angled... that is to say, if CaliJeff is willing to help me weld that up in exchange for me giving him a ride in the turbo celi smile.gif

I was just going to update this because I actually have an update now.
yay for more parts!
IPB Image

so I've spent all day trying to get them on... installed it all, replaced turbo and ic piping and EVERYTHING and started it up and had a massive oil leak... no good... it was leaking from the lines near the filter as well as somewhere near the adaptor, so I pull off the turbo AGAIN so I can tighten up all the lines, do so, start it up and another massive oil leak! so then my friend discovers that the O-ring for adaptor is kinda not in place... at all... so we tried for a couple hours to simply remove the adaptor, put the o-ring in place, and place the adaptor on the block but it sounds alot easier than it is! now it's looking like we need to pull the turbo off yet AGAIN so we can put the fricken oil filter adaptor in place with the O-ring in place. so we gave up for the night. it's also kinda frustrating that EVERYTHING in my engine bay is now coated with oil, and that I'm wasting so much of this stuff at $7 a quart! especially since I officially lost my job yesterday.

anyway, Jeff, you live like a couple blocks away, you can come over and see it this weekend if you want. it might even be drivable by then (hopefully)

I have to be 18 for everything! *sigh* My old boss gave my name and number to Kraft Foods/Nabisco since they were looking for merchandisers, they gave me a call this morning and he started asking some questions, and then he got to the "Are you at least 18 years of age?" question... that job would probably be some super good money too! I still have 7 weeks until I'm 18... but I'm filling out an application for America's Tire Co. right now. I'm pretty sure you don't have to be 18 to work there. (but you do for les schwab and big-o tires).

anyway, you can come over and see it tomorrow if you want. I'll hopefully get it running leak free by then. Maybe we can weld up the support bracket for the IC then.

if it's more than $8 an hour like I was making before I'll be fine. I think it's $10/hour there.

My advise is to put the car to the side untill a new job is found. Take it from me, credit card debt sucks.

I don't really need to spend that much more money, if any, to get it going. just an exhaust, which my mom is paying for... so I just need to put some time into it; which is something that I suddenly have a lot more of!

what a long day! today I pulled the entire turbo back off and re-installed the oil filter relocation kit. put everything back together. made a bracket for the intercooler using a flat 1/8" thick bar of aluminum and drilling a hole through the radiator support and then sticking a long bolt with a nut through it. kinda hard to explain what I mean, maybe I'll take a pic. got the front bumper back on. and took it for another spin! guess I could say it's done, but that would only be half right. I realized today that though it is running rich, that most of the smoke coming out is all blue smoke; I'm pretty sure that mean burning oil. especially since I have it tuned to run a 14.3-15.2 (it fluctuates so much and I have no idea why!) at idle so I know it's not running rich but it's still spewing blue smoke. I'm 99% sure it's all cause of my turbo. if you look into where the intake pipe connects you can just see it, and a lot of it! so, either this turbo needs rebuilt or I need a different one. I'm gonna try to see if my parents will also loan me the money for that, if not then I guess I'll be stuck driving the honda for another couple of weeks until I get a job! If I can get a new turbo so it doesn't smoke any if at all, then I think I can just drive it to the exhaust shop rather than having it towed for fear of being pulled over and asked to pop the hood.

there is still a small oil leak though. and I think, based on how far back it's dripping from, that it might be from the oil pan... Oh god I hope not! that was the biggest pain ever!

one more thing, on my last high throttle run, I felt something weird and afterwards it didn't boost and ran like it did NA. I think I blew off a coupler but I quickly cheacked them and they all seemed fine but it was dark and the engine was hot. I'll check better tomorrow, but if it's not that, is there anything else I should check?

my thoughts on the turbo celi: it's fast! I'm not too happy though. I spent most of the last couple of days trying to fix oil leaks and there are still more! once all the leaks are fixed and it gets a new turbo plus an exhaust plus a tune (I think I'm gonna take it in to be tuned cause I cannot figure this out! my a/f ratio fluctuates so much!) then I think I'll be happy. one things for sure, my next car will either come stock with a turbo or it'll stay NA!

this is how you learn. this is just the beginning.. you'll be poppin your hood more often then you think just to make sure everything's fine, no leaks etc..
