i know the ST205 makes around 270hp and i dunno the tq. the ST185 makes around 225 hp right?
ive seen so many people get the ST185, and to me this dosent make sense, since the 205 makes more power...Is it simply because of the price difference and that you can get the 185 for less than 205? Or is it that people easily mod the 185's to make them really fast so no need to spend the extra cash and get the 205... i just need some opinions and what you personally have done, and why you prefer an engine over the other |

st185 = cheaper motor, and easier to get replacment parts in the US (where most members are from)
because the 205 was only released in Japan and Europe...the parts are harder to locate and order, not to mention it can take months to get them shipped to u. -------------------- Kawi Love |

QUOTE i know the ST205 makes around 270hp and i dunno the tq. the ST185 makes around 225 hp right? Actually the 205 is only around 240-245. So there is only a 20 or so HP difference there. QUOTE Or is it that people easily mod the 185's to make them really fast so no need to spend the extra cash and get the 205... exactly. It doesnt take much to prime the 3S for power. -------------------- Teh Celica sleeps for Winter '06. Suspension overhaul begins........

the st185 is cheaper and easy to get a hold of. the st205 does have a lot of improvements, but over all, its still the same basic motor.
you can take any of the hp specs and pretty much throw them out the window. all that changes once you throw on a few simple bolt ons. most of the people with a 2nd gen are probably making closer to 250-280hp (crank), then the 225hp (crank) specs listed. but dont get me wrong, if you can find an st205 clip, and you can afford it, that is the better way to go. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

i've never looked into it, so i'll ask an additional question - the st185 engines are more obd compatible with the older 6gen chassis, and the st205 motors would be obd2 and thus a little harder to integrate w/o a complete half cut?

Other than the engine and performance spec, not everyone are into the four eye look of the 6th gen's, it definitely requires taste. 2nd of all, the ST185 had a history of WRC AND desert rally sucess story, while the ST205 was banned from the series before it really had a chance to shine.
