Does anyone know the size of the front door speakers for the 6GC? I've read its 13mm (5.25") Is this correct. I've also heard they're an odd size? Does anyone have a definitive answer to this as the stock one's that are in my car are shot!
Cheers ![]() ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

Stock ones are 6.25" but the are in a metal spacers which houses itself in a big (8" plastic bracket)
So in order to make a standard size 6.5" (16.5 cm) fit you would have to make a spacer out of plastic or preferred (as I did) MDF. There was a How To about is but it seems to be removed. -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

What I did was a thin (4mm thick) MDF spacer the attaches with screws to the outside of the frame just as the normal metal speaker. And made a inner spacer of 8-10mm thick mdf so that the combine structure is a solid 12-14mm thick spacer. This inner spacer is glued and screwed on the inside of the frame. If your asking why I did not make one big thick 14mm spacer, well of you do you can't place the door panel back on because the spacer is in the way. Cheers mate, I've just been on the Halfords website looking at the speakers.. There's quite a few to choose from in terms of size/cost etc.. I'll keep my eyes peeled for some 20cm ones then. I just want something that'll more or less go straight in and provide decent sound. Thanks again ![]() ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

I'll either do what you're suggesting, or go for some 8" speakers. While we're on about the door panel, did you have much difficulty getting the thing to fit back on properly after you'd installed your speakers? I took the panel off my MR2 once, managed to get it back on but it was never quite the same again. I just couldn't get it to fit exactly the way it was before! ![]() ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

No problems at all. Just make sure you put all the screws back. Should be as good as new.
First, as you said take out the screw in the handle cup and remove that. Then take out the large gold screw inside there holding the panel in place. Then, there are two screws under the two round pop off cover caps near the front of the panel. One screw in the hole in the armrest 4 screws along the bottom edge 3 small round clips on the outside edge then lift up and remove EDIT: Before removing, prise up the elec window switch panel from the back edge, and the red light, and disconnect them. there are loads of guides on celica-club.co.uk if you search on speakers. ![]() This post has been edited by manphibian: Jun 4, 2007 - 12:38 PM -------------------- |

Wouldnt make sense for the manufacturer to make sepperate panels with smaller speaker openings, when a simple adapter is cheaper....
