hey I have some dumb questions about the 2 engine fans
from what I understand 1 fan is for the engine to cool it (left fan) and the other only comes on when the AC is turned on (right fan), is this true ? do both fans kick on when the temp gets too high ? or just the one ? so do the STs and GTs without AC have both fans ? or just one ? tomorrow I will let the car warm up and watch to see if the both kick on when it gets too hot, that will probably answer most of my questions. thanks for the help -------------------- |

1. you are correct about which fan does what
2. when the AC is on both fans come on to cool 3. when the AC is off i've only heard one fan come on 4. iirc without AC theres just one fan 5. ??? 6. profit really tho, i'll take a gander at my prizm service manual at the description of operation for the fan system with AC and without AC. its the same fan system as the Celica ST as far as i know, so the operation should be the same. i really dont know if the fans have 2 speeds or not. -------------------- |

thanks Bitter. I just let the car warm up and both fans kicked on when it started getting hot, that pretty much answers my questions.

They both shut off when the temp drops below 200ºF. I got these numbers from the OBD2 diagnostic port & my hand held scanner when I was troubleshooting my cooling system. |
