I want to do the turbo 1uzfe, but the shop doing the work is trying to sell me on a LS1. The car as of now is gutted like the pics, with just a few more things removed.
Any opinions on what motor I should base this off of? Check out this beast... This post has been edited by coldbluesteel: Jun 10, 2007 - 12:48 PM -------------------- |

Sure did, well most of them.
Yeah I'm not even concerned with the exterior right now, just want to get all the mechanical issues worked out. Plus there is going to be a lot of cutting and welding needed so no point of trying to fit sheet metal yet. -------------------- |

The 1GR-FE is the 4.0L version. Bore is 94 mm and stroke is 95 mm [3.7"] Output is 236 hp (183 kW) at 5200 rpm with 266 lb-ft (382 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm on 87 octane, and 239 hp at 5200 rpm with 278 lb-ft at 3700 rpm on 91 octane. This engine features Toyota's single VVT-i, variable valve timing, system and a compression ratio of 10.0:1. Inside, the 1GR uses a taper-squish combustion chamber design with matching pistons to improve anti-knocking and engine performance, while also improving intake and fuel efficiency. Toyota adopted a siamese-type intake port, which reduces the surface area of the port walls and prevents fuel from adhering to such walls. This engine has special cast-iron cylinder liners cast into the block, which are a spiny type to improve adhesion between the liner and cylinder block. With these special thin liners it is impossible to bore the block. In the event of cylinder wall damage (scoring, deep protrusions, etc), the entire cylinder block must be replaced. For increased block rigidity, the 1GR also receives a high temperature plastic insulator/protector, which fills the empty space between the outer portion of the cylinders and block material common to open deck engines. For increased cooling efficiency, the 1GR employs water passages between the bores of the engine. [ the 5.7 hs Siamese'd cylinder sleeves ] There are such 2 passages for each bank for a total of 4. This reduces cylinder hot-spotting and keeps combustion chamber temperatures more uniform. -end quote- Factory Supercharged version will pump out 335HP. This is a Perfect candidate for a Turbo in a 6G Sports Fans ! This engine is 0.32" shorter on stroke than the Tundra 5.7 of 4.02" AND weighs 384 lbs. -------------------- GT - " '99.....In the Shade" |

Toyota UZ engine From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Toyota UZ Manufacturer Toyota Motor Company Production 1989– Class DOHC 90° V8 The Toyota UZ engine family is a 32-valve quad-camshaft V8 piston engine series used in Toyota's luxury offerings and sport utility vehicles. Contents [hide] * 1 1UZ-FE * 2 2UZ-FE * 3 3UZ-FE * 4 See also [edit] 1UZ-FE The all-alloy 1UZ-FE debuted in 1989 in the first generation Lexus LS400/Toyota Celsior with an output of 191 kW (256 hp) and torque of 353 N·m (260 ft·lbf). The engine was progressively released in a number of other models across the Toyota/Lexus range and proved to be a strong, reliable and smooth powerplant with features such as 6-bolt main bearings and belt-driven quad-camshafts. Initially running 10:1 compression, the engine was slightly revised in 1995 with lighter conrods and pistons and an increased compression ratio to 10.4:1 resulting in peak power of 195kw and torque of 363nm. In 1997, Toyota's VVT-i variable valve timing technology was introduced along with a further CR increase to 10.5:1 bumping power and torque to 216 kW (290 hp) and 407 N·m (300 ft·lbf). The 1UZ-FE was voted to the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1998 through 2000. Applications: * 1989-2000 Lexus LS 400/Toyota Celsior * 1990-2002 Toyota Crown * 1991-2000 Lexus SC 400/Toyota Soarer * 1992-2000 Lexus GS 400/Toyota Aristo * Toyota MR2 Le Mans Car See also: * Ward's article [edit] 2UZ-FE The 2UZ-FE is a 4.7 L cast iron block version built in Tahara, Aichi, Japan and at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama. Designed for low-revving, high-torque SUV applications, it's bore is 94 mm and stroke is 84 mm. Output is 179 kW (271 hp) at 4800 rpm with 427 N·m (315 ft·lbf) of torque at 3400 rpm. Like the 1UZ-FE it has aluminium DOHC cylinder heads, MFI fuel injection, 4 valves per cylinder with bucket tappets, one-piece cast camshafts, and a cast aluminium intake manifold. Applications: * 2001-2005 Toyota Land Cruiser * 2001-2005 Lexus LX 470 * 2001-2003 Toyota Tundra * 2001-2003 Toyota Sequoia Another 2UZ-FE variation adds VVT-i and electronic throttle control. People that make over 700 WHP usually spend at least $15,000- $20,000. It doesn't matter if it's a Civic or a Supra, the money spent is a lot.

With a ton of power it will be a challenge to actually put it down with fwd. Sounded like you might go rwd or something, which would be pretty sweet but lots of money.

do the 1uz! if you want to keep save money and swap it fwd check this out
http://mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=193652 he has a custom adapter and flywheel for sale to mate the 1uz to the e153 tranny. these are the 2 main parts needed and they have to be made custom. if the engine fits, it shouldnt be much more difficult than any other swap. would just have to fabricate a passenger side mount which is no big deal, and the exhaust might be a pain to route. looks like you got an awesome project on your hands. looking forward to see it come together -------------------- I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. |

Most definitely doing RWD conversion. It would be pointless to try to put that much power through FWD. I am building to 400 to 500 RWHP.... at first! The 1u and ls1 are comparable when you look at cost per HP/ Torque, and don't forget the LS1 is 5.7 while the 1u is only 4.0. They are both excellent choices!

There are a ton of LS1' running this kind of power with just a few mods, and I were to turbo it... The 1u would take more to build that power, but it is like 5 to 10x times less $ initially. -------------------- |
