I'm going to apologize ahead of time because this is the first write-up I've ever done and I don't know if someone has done this yet. I don't have pictures yet but i will soon and i'll try to answer everyone's questions the best I can. Keep in mind this is completely unneccessary, I just thought it'd be cool. Also this was on a car that DOES NOT have an alarm. If I'm missing any sort of detail or am wrong about something, please kindly let me know.

OK...a friend of mine that also owns a 94 celica came to me the other day and asked me to help him install a "racing style Ignition system". Basicly it broke down into using two toggle switches for ignition and accessory with a third momentary-on switch for the starter. Now my friend likes to make things hard for me and wanted to keep his cigarette lighter as well as using a "style-ish" aluminum panel to hold his switches. Now my dilema was where the starter button would go. So I had a brilliant Idea, I'd use the hazard signal button to start the car, then replace the actual hazard switch with a generic toggle switch of some sort.

I've done this sort of thing before but what I wanted to attempt was still utilizing the key ignition to maintain some degree of security. Now when I had disassembled the actual Hazard switch i realized that it was only a collection of leads connected to one positive terminal. There is also a small plastic piece with a small wire inside of it which makes the click-on click-off function work, all you have to do is remove it so the switch acts as a momentary-on. So i cut the starter wire from the ignition switch then spliced a wire into Ignition-1 so power would run through the switch in the on position. I cut the wires from from the harness that connect to copper connections in the switch and spliced them all together and connected them to the toggle switch which will now be the hazard signal switch. Then I cut the wire connected to the top silver prong and connected that to the toggle switch so the hazards function normally. Now I ran the wire from the Ignition-1 to the top silver connection and the starter wire to any of the copper connections. Now since this utilizes the factory harness the light for the switch will still work. Now you have a push-button style ignition that is very well concealed.

thats pretty cool, at least for tackling a project like that, if he has the 2 toggle switches though... whats the point of having the key as well?

mold out the cylander there by the column and use the hazard button for the start, then but some sort of switch box else where in the car... like 2 "heated seats" buttons, that way a thief would have to REALLY take their time tryin to hot wire the car since who would ever suspect the heated seat button!! haha

props on the work though thumbsup.gif
