So I have the celi at the exhaust shop right now having my header-back exhaust line done, and the mechanic just called me saying that the headers dont go down far enough to clear the oil pan. I had an idea of having him cut the pipes coming from the engine and adding ceramic coated extensions to try to lower it a bit, but I was wondering if anybody else had this problem and how they resolved it.
dammit. On top of that, somebody broke into my car last night and stole two packs of cigarettes and a bottle of cologne, and left me an unopened can of pepsi. wtf is happening today?!?! -------------------- |

yeah man. It doesnt so much suck as it confuses the hell out of me. There was a digital camera in my glove box right next to the smokes and a 140 dollar set of dj headphones in the trunk. Not to mention a ton of ecko jackets and hoodies in the back seat. All they took was the smokes and the cologne.
And I don't get the pepsi at all. It's like they were trying to balance out their karma. Thing is, I don't drink pop. My mom thinks it was god. I told her I couldnt see Jesus having much use for Aqua de gio... Anyway, back to being relevant... HELP!!! -------------------- |

Eh, I like the smell of it, but you cant walk ten steps in this city without smelling someone wearing it. I'm thinking about switching back to Hugo.
The pepsi man. The pepsi. I don't get the friggin pepsi. -------------------- |

i'm guessing the mechanic just looked and said it wouldnt clear  especially once it dawned on him he had to move the alternator out of the way and fuss with that belt, which isnt a big deal but does add about another 15 minutes to the job.

Nah, he thought about it for a couple minutes, then got sick of thinking and pulled off the original manifold and it matched right up and cleared fine. lol. and they actually had to add about 6 inches between the headers and the cat.
I kinda wish I would have gotten a different muffler though. This one's louder than what I wanted. Down the road I'll probably change it but it's fine for now. I was really please with the job they did. Only things I brought them were the headers, downpipe, cat, and muffler, and they bent all the piping and did all the welding for 275. Compared to the shop up the street asking for almost 500, I'm happy with it. NEXT! -------------------- |

Oh yeah. At first I wasnt expecting much, and in terms of real power.... it's an ST... ya know? But I can DEFINATELY tell a difference with the combination of the headers, the cat and the piping. I can see what supersprynt was talking about when I first joined about losing a lot of low end torque, but once she hits around 2500 or 3000 she gets zippier than a tweeker getting a fix. For a total of $550 (all parts and labor), I'm really happy with the outcome. Ebay headers = good buy. Now we'll see how long they last... The mechanic said the welds all looked really good for being as inexpensive as they were. He said they actually were a better product than a lot of the sets he's installed.
+1 recommendation Now I gotta figure out what to do next. I'm pushing whatever swap or forced induction mods back till next year to do more research and make the best decision for me, but I'm not satisfied completely yet with the 7afe. I want something more. I'm looking into more suspension for now, but if anybody has some sugestions for the next stage on the motor, please let me know! oh, and thanks for all the help earlier guys! I'll make sure I buy different cologne sometime this week. -------------------- |

i didnt change my exhaust much with the header and my timing is advanced, maybe thats why i dont feel such a loss of lowend, some was lost for sure tho.

that's definately one of the next things on the menu. Advancing the timing at least 5 degrees. Only thing is I was looking at the distributor and the bolt that they were talking about in the tutorial isnt there. :?
The mechanic said if the bolt isnt there that you can take it up to jegs and have them hook something up to it to do it, but I wanted to know if anybody else had to do it like that? -------------------- |

The mechanic said if the bolt isnt there that you can take it up to jegs and have them hook something up to it to do it, but I wanted to know if anybody else had to do it like that? you have a 96 which is OBD2, you can not advance timing by rotating the distributor like the earlier 93-95 7A-FE's can. -------------------- |

you'd have to use a piggyback, which would allow you to do alot more but also costs a good chunk of change. however you'll need one later on for the turbo anyways. something like an E-Manage.
