Today a guy put up his DD ae86 for sale. It's a coupe, 5 speed, GT-s, LSD, blue paint. Blue interior. It has 200k miles at least, power everything. One headlight won't go down, passenger window won't go down either. Power sunroof. I drove it today, drives pretty well, 2nd gear would stick rarely. No creeks, nothing on corners, pretty silent. It has a rice muffler though, but I KNOW it hasn't been ragged on, I live in a small town, so I'd know if it was. He said he bought it to replace a rusting stock exhaust and it was cheap. He's asking 800.

I really kinda liked it but wondered 6gcs opinions. Also need some good sites for the 1.6 liter engine, or corollas. Would use it as a learning platform for things like painting/bondo. Maybe later it can be an autox car or drifter. It has some light rust but I didn't get to check the underbody.

club4ag.com

sounds like a deal to me. i would only buy it though if you are sure you want to deal with a project car, both time and money. if not, thats just a big piece of junk taking up space in your garage. if anything, you could buy it and turn around and sell it as-is for more since im sure people would pay for it.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

check for the corolla hole. Look under the master cylinder for any rust on the firewall. AE's are notorious for developing a hole there. Also, check the frame rails and rockers, they usually rust out too. Is it an actuall LSD in it? what kind? I know that the later model AE86's came with a V-LSD, but not an actuall LSD.

viscous
aka a fluid that resists shear...
they put two blades in this fluid practically, one for each wheel, so when one is spinning faster than the other, teh fluid resists it by transferring the torque/shear to the other wheel/"blades"

viscus limited slip differential. It means it acts like an regular LSD, but it only works to a degree. Aftermarket LSD's clutch grab when ever power is distributed to them, where as an VLSD's clutchs will only grab when needed...pretty much, think of going around doing doughnuts. Theres 2 ways to do them, going around in circles with your ass-end not coming out at all with a wide radius, or going around in tight circles where your front wheels are in a very very small radius circle, and your back end is in a tight radius circle too, ass-end sliding out.
late model S13 240sx' came with them, late model AE86's came with them, Miata's came with them, turbo FC RX7's, MKIII supra's, P-type MKII supra/celica's, MKIII Celica GT-S'. They are fun, but dont grab like a 1.5 or 2way LSD.

Any ways, back on topic. AE's are fun, but watch out cuz they can be money pits. Get it checked out by a certified tech, and see if theres any one from Club4ag near you.

AE's are good platforms, lots you can do with them, fun cars to drive, just watch the body and how much $ you put into them. My buddy bought his for $1200, within a year spent almost $4000 on repairs and upgrades. Hatchi's are like a drug. Also, you said you might turn it into your autocross or drifter car. Just make sure you learn to drift in a place thats safe and is a controlled enviroment. Last thing we need to hear about is one of our members gettin injured.
