Car stalled, will not start Options

I have a 94 Celica GT. It started up fine and I drove for about 5 minutes. I stopped at a light and then when I hit the gas it moved forward a little bit and then the car stalled. I am not able to restart the car.

I am not a car expert, but the engine seems to be trying to start but does not ever seem to actually start.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a fuel system problem u might have a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump.

Edit:Before starting your car press on the gas pedal all the way down once and try to start it again. DON'T DO THIS MORE THEN TWICE sorry just a warning I should give you.

Have someone kneel next to your driver rear wheel and turn the key on. They should hear the fuel pump kick on. If there's no hum when you do that, your fuel pump has died. This doesn't really sound like a pump problem though. If the pump is good, go with Remy's suggestion on the fuel filter.

That applies to all cars your engine will be flooded with gasoline if you do it too much.

That applies to all cars your engine will be flooded with gasoline if you do it too much.

What if his engine IS flooded, and thats why it wont start? If it IS flooded then you would want to keep the throttle open while you crank it.

I tried the pressing the gas pedal thing and that did not seem to help. I have not had a chance to have someone listen near the gas tank when I try to start it to see if the fuel pump is operating.

I am not sure about the timing belt off the top of my head. I gave the car to my nephew for a few years and got it back a year ago. Is this something I would be able to see visually or is the timing belt totally encased?

Its totally encased, you can see it by removing the timing belt cover(Not sure how to do, as I've never actually done it), OR remove the valve cover and you should be able to inspect the top of it anyway to check for cracks, and missing teeth (at the top of it anyway) or to see if it just plain snapped. If it broke, don't fret as our motors are non-interference so your valves should not have come into contact with the pistons.

i mean this is kinda worst case scenario, so don't get worried. Not trying to scare ya, as it probably is a clogged fuel filter. But it can't hurt to inspect the timing belt
