there is no such thing as all around better header design Or why would any manfacture 4-2-1 header or 4-1 header if one design was superior to the other.

It depends on what you want from your engine.

4-2-1 header allow better mid range power. But it does not free up the high rpm power as well compared to 4-1 header.

So it depends on what you use your engine for? Strict drag racing? then you want 4-1. If you want to use it for street and short tracks, then you want 4-2-1.

4-2-1, the FE head is low and midrange power. just a 4-1 header wont change that. the 4-2-1 ebay header does help alot, moved my power upto around 3500rpm, pulls sweetly from there on up. below that its still very driveable and plenty resposnive. gas mileage wasnt hurt at all.

ya, it was like $100.30 shipped. i was very skeptical at first and it sat in my closet for about 3 months till i put it on. the flex section got really raspy after about 2 weeks, so i wrapped it in some aluminum and clamped it in place. other than that, its a good deal so far!

I'm looking into custom exhaust (leaky pipe, local stores can't get the right pipe and Toyota wants $260 for one freaking pipe!) so I've been on a header search. Seems that stuff for the GT is a bit scarce on eBay right now and I really would prefer 4-2-1. Do any of you know where I can locate a 4-2-1 header?

And as for mufflers...I'm planning on Magnaflow but I'm not sure what size would work best, just want to stay away from rice-burner as much as I can.

The flex pipe did? Did you install it yourself or did you have a shop reweld stuff for you?

NuclearHappiness on Celicatech did an awesome writeup on 4-1 vs 4-2-1. It might help you with your choice.

it's not enough to notice... and these motors have no top-end to begin with, so 4-2-1 is almost always the preffered choice.

Sweet! Today is payday and I ordered a header off of eBay (which is nerve racking as I'm not a large fan of eBay). I got it for 100 shipped from a seller in Seattle so hopefully I'll receive it shortly. Don't know that I'll be able to do all my exhaust this month, possibly just the header. But I'm stoked none the less.
