So I saw an eclipse today who flat blacked his tail lights, signals, etc. I don't think the light will get through the flat black paint well enough, but has anybody tried that tint stuff on them?

I used the spray tint stuff on my side markers and turn signals. I am going to have to redo it soon because it is starting to flake off. I suppose more clear next time tongue.gif

Yeah light will shine through it. It would be illegal if it didn't. Look at the pictures in my profile. One of them you can see that they are black, and the night picture you can see the turn signals. I don't recall where I got them, but I am going to strip all the crap off of them and when I have my front bumper repainted I am going to have them spray my turn signals with a light layer of the black and clearcoat them.

I used the smoked-out vinyl tint from r-vinyls. Check in my profile or look in the flashbacks thread in the General Discussions.

I looked for all three, the VHT looks like it's the best bet for this application. It's only $20 for a can on eBay, so I may get it off of there. How many cans for the four markers and two tails you think? Also which can is the one you used uberschall?

Well its not "chipping", its more "cracking" right above where the bulb is. It hasn't flaked off or anything, but make sure you put a bit of clear on it. I only did 1-2 layers, but then again that was back in the beginning of 2005..

Tried this stuff on my headlights and it startd to crack... O_O, but on the tail lights it looks really sexy. If you mess up use gas, it takes the paint off without doing too much harm to the clear coat of your car.

.. you should probably remove the signals and such from the car before you start painting, especially if you need to dump gas on it..

I used VHT Nite Shades with great success on mine. Light comes through still. Use it until you're happy with the shade.

heres a pic of mine. well if you smoke out your tail lights make sure you DO put clear coat on top. you could get acrylic clear coat at any PEARL paint shop thats where i got mine. as for VHT Nite Shade you could pick that up at a car shop or autozone or something. and if you do decide to smoke it heres a tip.. if you want to make it look darker dont keep on spraying.. spray one layer, let it dry, once its fully dry, add another layer and so forth.. have fun biggrin.gif

That's hawt! Did you remove the tails to do that? The front signals look easy to remove so I'll definitely do those, but the tails look like a possible pita.

^the tails are extremely easy to remove, when you open the hatch, on the back there are 6 "plugs" with little light bulbs on them (3 on each side) pop those off, then get a 10mm socket and take the nuts off and the tails will fall right out.
