If you dont do a rear alignment, can it affect the steering wheel not being straight? i got a strange alignment issue and the steering wheel isnt straight.

Yes

Despite sounding backward, the rear wheels determine what direction the car is pointed in.
So, if they're not lined up with the chassis [called thrust angle], even if the front wheels are aligned right the wheel will be off when driving.

Yes even if the front wheels are aligned and the rear isn't, the rear could still point in a different direction than your front and cause it to steer wrong.

This is why you always get a 4 wheel instead of a front wheel alignment.
Even on non adjustable rears the computer should see the thrust angle.

I'm really surprised they even did a front wheel only.

Actually they were pretty persistent about Lew getting a 4 wheel alignment but we declined it because he didn't want to pay the extra 40 bucks... I guess they were right in the end.

the steering wheel should be centered even if they only did a front wheel alignment. when you do a front wheel alignement, the mechanic centers the steering wheel in the car and adjusts the front toe to match the rear toe, whether the rear toe is out of spec or not. the steering wheel should be centered. if your have them do the rear alignemnt, they will have to do the front over again.
