it seems that the rear motor is not attached to the tranny no more. it seems that the bolt has broken off and the housing holes on the tranny is cracked in half. the question i have is whether or not this motor mount problem with damage my car in any way i.e. damage tranny or engine left on the road behind me . i've been driving it around like that with no problems except for the tranny hitting the motormount. the motor mount is fine its just the bolts broke off and the holes for the bolts are cracked in half.

I have the a clunk noise when i lift off the gas and then on again slightly quicker. Noise coming from the middle transmission area. I have ordered new front and rear motor mounts and will be changing them out soon. I will report back if it solves the problem.
I suggest fixing your problem as a broken transmission mount puts stress on other components. get it welded back etc This post has been edited by soven: Jul 9, 2007 - 7:02 PM |

make sure its the mount and not the bolt threads on the tranny that are not cracked or broken, same thing happened to mine, but only 1 bolt is missing, still have 3 more holding it on!!!! lol this seems to be a common problem with 5 speed celica's.. maybe a weak metal they used for the tranny housing? it seems to happen when ppl redo there clutch or work on there tranny.. if they are not put back on tightly or whatever, they lossen off then thats what puts pressure on the bolts which leads to the threads in the housing cracking or breaking.. most likely a design flaw

Funny how i come here once in a while and the first post is exactly what i'm looking for!!
First I wouldnt run it without a proper motor mount. My gf called me yesterday night saying that her car dropped a bolt?!? She stopped and picked it up. She said it was doing a noise when listing and pressing the gas. It's still on the ramps outside, the bolt was the one from the rear motor mount. But the treads in the welded nut seems stripped. So..... I came here to ask what size is this bolt so that I can buy a nut for it. This post has been edited by Guerice: Jul 10, 2007 - 3:35 PM |
